Shortly after Zanilia Zhao‘s (趙麗穎) romance with CEO Wang Hao (王昊) was exposed following their vacation in the Maldives, reports are claiming that the couple may be engaged.

On February 22, which is also the 15th day of the Lunar New Year, Mainland Chinese celebrities news site, I Am Paparazzi <全民星探> published reports alleging that Zanilia is getting engaged to a handsome mystery man. Together with the reports were photographs of Zanilia on vacation with the man, as well as the caption, “Unlike her contemporaries, Yang Mi (楊冪), Angelababy, or Cecilia Liu (劉詩詩), Zanilia did not choose her partner from within the entertainment industry. She has quietly chosen to be with a 37-year-old tall and handsome mystery man!”

According to an anonymous source, the man’s name is Wang Hao (王昊). He had spent most of his life abroad, but returned to Shanghai for work in 2005. He is presently the CEO of an e-commerce company. Zanilia had allegedly spent the Lunar New Year holidays with Wang Hao in the Maldives.

The post sparked fervent discussion among netizens, who were split into several camps. One camp encouraged Zanilia to make her romance public, commenting, “Zanilia does not have any connections in the industry and relied on hard work for nearly 10 years to get to where she is today. Hope that Wang Hao will treat her well, and we wish her well.”

Another group of netizens adopted a more neutral stance, and commented, “Celebrities also have the right to love. But we only believe what Zanilia admits to. As long as this love of hers proves to be true, the fans will naturally give them their blessings.”

The third group of netizens consisted of many of Zanilia’s fans who defended her and asserted that they refused to believe the reports, due to “a lack of evidence”.

Zanilia has not responded directly to the reports but merely posted a selfie on her Weibo, with the caption, “Good morning! Happy 15th day of the Lunar New Year! What flavor of glutinous rice balls has everyone been eating?”
