Anyone know any good tips on writing a formal report? I got to do this for coursework, due in real soon
Ermm....from whut i know...most reports follow this format and use these headings.. 1. Abstract / summary 2. Introduction 3. Methodology 4. Results / findings 5. Discussion 6. Conclusion 7. References but it depends on your subject area coz some disciplines the headings vary...
The headings I have been told to use is intro, materials/eq, method, results, discussion, suggestions, references. My limit is 1.6k words. Im all out of ideas on what to write for suggestions. you got that right! damn harvard style referencing
yea same here, goes through a turnitin report, it just lengthens the time taken to write the essay by loads. just annoys me and u have to be conscious of what ur writing.
my usual headings - title page and brief summary - contents - background - intro - theory - methodology - results - discussion - conclusion - references - appendix / (possibly tables and figures too if not in the main body of report) told in the 3rd person, so no "I" or "we" did this, etc and where possible in the past and passive tense keep it concise and to the point!
I found a good site to help you reference from books http://www.neilstoolbox.com/bibliography-creator/reference-book.htm All you need to do is fill in details of the book, then the reference will be generated.
Will you be observed in doing this? or do you have to do ths in your own time? If done in your own time, you can probably make it up by waffling a lot. Around 1500 words, half an hour for 500 words
yea thats rather efficent though, a more realistic amount would be about 800-1000 words i reckon if it is on something that u already know information on.
