My dad wants to get a another car for working and his friend is offering him a 1999 Toyota Camry 100,000 miles for around 6000 bucks. To buy or not to buy?
have it inspected at the dealer before you buy it. that would be your best bet. make sure they do a compression test on the cylinders.A car with this much mileage might have worn out piston rings.
Dunno how much the car depreciates but $6000 for 100,000 miles sounds a bit steep for me. Im sure you can find cheaper, but then again maybe its a really good car?
yea but it's kinda hard if ya trying to get to work... it's like pple can't even get their mailbox without drivin' their car nowadays...
get it check, if every thing seems fine, why not buy it as new car are more expansive, and the minutes you brought it, it's depreciated the value already. plus a car is just used for transport!
lol oh yes now i remember, but you can get those cars modified for disabled people with auto gears and hand lever for accelerator (and brake) -^_^ I am still convinced you can find a cheeper and better car out there. But since the cars from a friend, you can tell if its been looked after.
is ur dad's friend trustable? cause some ppl don't take care of their car and u're gonna have a lota mechanical problems
I brought a used car 2000 acura TL for 9g had it for about 1month and the tranny failed. its been is the shop hmmm for about 7months now
6K for 99 100K Camry seems pretty expensive. It would only be worth it if its an XLE or V6 or both. With 6K you can find something newer with a tad less miles. Try autotrader.com
Hondas/Acuras are notorius for their weak Transmissions. Anyone buying an automatic honda/acura with 90k+ miles beware.
ya, all those honda/acura V6 tansmissions were recalled for a 2nd gear update. what happens is the 2nd gear on the transmission is starved of oil. so what they do at the dealer is they hook up the oil return line onto the fill hole. that will properly lubricate the 2nd and prevent the tranny from getting cooked. one more tip. if you ever buy a car with a auto tranny. pull the dipstick out and smell the fluid. if it smells burnt dont buy the car!!!!!
one more thing, a properly maintained honda tranny is actually very good. only the ones where the fluid dont get replaced regularly have problems.
