Carina Lau has admitted the first time in an interview that she is married to Tony Leung, but says she still prefers to be called Miss Lau instead of Mrs. Leung.

Lau has lost ten pounds since her father's death, and expressed her gratitude to Tony Leung for supporting her. "Everybody will experience a family member's passing away. I will get used to it and accept it. It just makes you grow up. Life is really fragile, and we have to cherish it and our health."

Carina Lau and Tony Leung have been together for 20 years.

Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Carina Lau Ka Ling have been dating for 17 years. Earlier, rumors spread that Carina was involved with wealthy Taiwanese merchant, Guo Taiming.

Holding hands, Carina attended a charity ball and family wedding with Mr. Guo. Afterwards, she flew back to Hong Kong on Mr. Guo's private jet and accompanied him on a tour of Hainan Island as well.

Allegedly, Tony was dissatisfied with Carina's high profile exposure with Mr. Guo. To pacify Tony, Carina booked an early skiing trip with him to Hokkaido earlier.

Appearing at the Hong Kong Film Expo yesterday, Tony was in good spirits and responded to Carina and Mr. Guo's rumors, "Carina has already responded accordingly to the press's questions. But I can tell you with complete confidence that I trust Carina entirely."

Reporters were quite respectful towards Tony and did not press the issue further. However, they asked if Mr. Guo asked Tony to film a movie, would Tony accept? "I will not answer any hypothetical questions raised." Tony requested reporters to change the topic.

Carina's Response to Rumors with Mr. Guo

Carina had explained earlier, "Mr. Guo is my friend. The press printed photos of Mr. Guo's hand on my thigh, but the effect was a result of the camera angle. There is no need to complicate matters further."

"Each time I am spotted with a male friend, everyone thinks there is romantic involvement. But they are just normal networking and social events. There is no need to hide anything. I don't consider them to be anything more. Tony never questioned me about them either."

Tony has been nominated for the Best Actor Award for his role in "Confessions of Pain" in 2007's Hong Kong Film Awards. He is happy that he has been nominated and whether he wins the award will be dependent on luck.

Tony's movie, "Infernal Affairs" was remade by Hollywood into "The Departed," starring Leonardo Di Caprio, and won numerous Oscar Awards.

"Confessions of Pain" has also been picked up by Hollywood for a remake. Tony is proud that Hong Kong movie scripts have international recognition, proving that there is much talent in the Hong Kong film industry.

Veteran Hong Kong actor Tony Leung Chiu Wai attended the launch ceremony as the ambassador of the third Hong Kong Film and Entertainment Expo on Thursday.

The expo will be held from March 20 to April 15 in Hong Kong. Tony Leung said it was an honor to be the ambassador for the third time in a row and promised to dedicate his efforts to attract more global investment in the Hong Kong film industry.

The actor was also pleased to be nominated as best actor for the movie "Confession of Pain" at this year's Hong Kong Film Awards.

The freshly awarded best picture "The Departed" at this year's Academy Awards was adapted from Hong Kong gangster movie "Infernal Affairs" with Tony Leung as one of the lead actors.

The actor avoided answering whether he would work on movies invested in by wealthy Taiwan businessman Terry Kuo, who is rumored to be having an affair with Tony's longtime girlfriend Carina Lau.

Fans of Hong Kong actor Tony Leung won't be able to see him in the upcoming "Battle of Red Cliffs," or "Chi Bi," as the star has decided to step back from the lead in the film.

Chinese web portal Sina.com says the film's director John Woo confirmed the Cannes Best Actor winner gave up playing Zhu-Ge Liang, a legendary military strategist in the ancient Three Kingdoms period, in the film.

Tony Leung has reportedly said the plot was attractive, but the six-month-long shoot was longer than he expected.

Rumors say the star may take the break to concentrate on his relationship with fellow actress Carina Lau. Some suspect he wants to take a rest after finishing shooting Ang Lee's "Lust, Caution."

No comments were available from Tony Leung's agent.

In the wake of the star's withdrawal, heartthrob Takeshi Kaneshiro has been confirmed to take on the role and join the star-heavy cast, including Chow Yun-Fat, Taiwan supermodel Chiling Lin, and mainland actress Vicki Zhao.

"Battle of Red Cliffs" will begin shooting later this month, and is slated to premiere next year.

It may seem strange at first that Tony Leung Chiu Wai should have been picked as honorary ambassador for the Hong Kong International Film Festival 2007. Despite his fame, Tony Leung emerged as a shy, retiring person in an interview with Cho Sung-kyu, the head of Sponge Entertainment, on behalf of Chosun Ilbo. Excerpts follow.

The movie “Infernal Affairs,” in which you played a leading part, was remade as “The Departed“ by Martin Scorsese and won an Oscar. What do you think were the differences between the original and the remake? What is your impression of Leonardo DiCaprio, who played your role in the remake?

- Before I talk about the differences, I'd like to say I'm a huge fan of Martin Scorsese. I became a fan when I saw “Taxi Driver” and “Raging Bull.” His directing style is so unique that I can’t assert the differences from “Infernal Affairs.” Briefly, “Infernal Affairs” is emotional while “The Departed” is realistic. It’s too difficult to compare myself with DiCaprio. He’s a good actor. We are just different because we've grown up and learned in different circumstances.

Most of your characters are sensitive and vulnerable men. What about your real character?

- Actually, I’m quiet and shy. I think movie characters are the same as my real personality. Especially when I’m in front of many people, I become really shy. If I get hurt, I just try to forget it. Seriously, I don't know any other way to handle it.

You've made many films with director Wong Kar-Wai. Why do you like working with him?

-It’s great fun. We've known each other for a long time, so that makes it easy for me to work with him. I don't know why other actors or actresses feel uncomfortable filming with him. Maybe it’s because he doesn't use scripts. But because there’s no fixed frame in directing, actors can have more freedom acting. He can turn anything -- whether its music, painting or literature -- into film.

You make fewer foreign movies than other Chinese actors do like Chow Yun Fat or Gong Li.

-I don’t just make movies in Hong Kong. I’ve made movies with directors from other countries including Hou Hsiao Hsien, Tran Ahn Hung and Ang Lee. I don't insist on working with Hong Kong people. If it’s a good movie, I don't care whether it’s made in Hollywood. I recently finished a film with Ang Lee, and he’s now editing it in New York.

What else do you like except movies? Do you have hobbies or enjoy sports?

I love sports. I like playing ping pong. I play every day. I also like snowboarding and skiing. But I haven’t been able to enjoy outdoor sports as much as I used to since I got hurt.

What is the meaning of movies to you?

Movie to me is fun. It’s a short answer, but it really is for me.

I like his acting in the ancient series/movie than the modern one. The only modern movie I watched was Infernal Affairs (I don't really remember the name) with Andy Lau. Most of the time I watched his old series when he still worked for TVB ^_^

tony leung is definitely one of hong kong's most apt and versatile actors...i really enjoy watching his films!

on a lighter note, perhaps the equivalent of johnny depp in the hong kong cinema industry?

Great news about him. I didn't even know he and Carina are together for 20 years. wow. I knew of his first gf. Really wonderful to know more as never any news where I am but get news from all asian forum site. =)

Tony leung did a great job for his role in infernal affairs. He suited the role quite well and a great actor suiting both serious and comedial roles.
