Actually intelligent design is a belief in a creator and also in evolution. Its a theory that there is a creator that is actually guiding the process of evolution. Its not impossible but there is no way of proving it or testing it. The theory of evolution itself is testable and thats why most if not all scientist have the same view. Creationism is the belief in a creator and that creator created every single creature/organism in this world. The creator created the universe and all organisms were individually created and did not originate from one organism. In evolution the theory is that all organisms have a similar origin. That explains why our DNA code is similar to primates and not that different from a horse or even corn. I think that all views should be expressed in schools, but evolution should be taught in science courses because Creationism and Intelligent design cannot be consider a science. There is no way to test it and that is the basis of science being able to conduct experiments and test subjects. Because Im a Buddhist I am a true believer in evolution. Stories from the bible does not give enough evidence that there is a creator. The message it gives is a positive one, but the creator that is mention in the bible sends out a "my way or the high way" type of attitude, (If you dont believe in me you will go to hell). wow that sounds kinda harsh and unfair. I sure dont want my God to have share this type of characteristic. There are just too many holes in the bible to make it believable.
i believe in evolution and not intelligent design. evidence supporting evolution is much stronger than intelligent design. just my opinion.
I won't say that there is no such thing as a god but have you heard the reasoning some of these intelligent design people are using. I don't see how anyone with a high school education wouldn't think some of these people are just plain retards. There was a video floating around the net with some guy saying that bananas are nice and curved and they are yellow or something like that, and so that proves there is a god who made it.
I think there is a misconception about evolution. The fact is that there is fossil records of species that we do not have today and there are linkages between existing species and those that have gone extinct. These changes are a fact and that it what evolution is. Since the introduction of Intelligent Design there have been concepts and theories introduced that have incorporated both of these theories strong points.
I think is Intelligent Design... 1 of the Major Point was... Everything needed from something to begin to move ( Therefore, you need force ) Which means, there has to be something or someone started moving something to create the motion which create time and movement
Intelligent design is the most screwed up *story* ever. Its premise is deeply flawed, and the fact the its defenders can't even back it up, well .. *shudders*. Lets just say, if they ever started teaching that to my kids, I'd take them out of school.
I never buy the concept of intelligent design -- it's too much like a "you can't prove your theory so mine must be right" type of safety net. And the whole "if you found a pocket watch in the middle of nowhere, you know it's made and not evolved to be so" is a totally invalid argument -- does microwaves and pocket watch reproduce themselves? Unless the ID gang can demostrate the reason behind evolution -- afterall, if God is so intelligent He created every living thing and beyond, why do some of them destined to extinct and others mutates (and evolve)? Intelligent design is just a hoax to recruit people who don't know science. If a theory is infallible or impossible to disprove (like Intelligent design), it's not even a theory. And the whole "evolution is just a theory, so it's fallible" made evolution all the more plausible to be the "truth" -- because it welcomes challenges and further its accuracy (to describe/represent the reality).
there was a great articles in the skeptical inquirer magazine by jason rosenhouse last year called "Why do scientists get so angry when dealing with ID proponents" that talks about ID
Would you be so kind to provide a link for that item??? I am really interested in reading it. Without reading and thus having no knowledge of the item titled "Why do scientists get so angry when dealing with ID proponents", my instinctive response to intelligence design would be: It's fake science. And it gets kind of aggrevating when random person just come along and tell you something totally invalid (which they claim to be true). Which was just the case for scientists: they spend their life finding out the secret of the universe (no matter how big and small), coming up with theories and defending them with research evidences which was their flesh and blood. Then along come some random God-worshipping person/people who came up with this ingenious thing called intelligence design to refute science -- all the while disregard all rules of scientific method to theory. It's like having your entire life refuted by this random passerby who knows nothing. How can they NOT be aggrevated? Perhaps the suggested reading list for this thread, besides the item in the Inquirer, would be this item from SciAm.
answer from scientific american: " 6. If humans descended from monkeys, why are there still monkeys? answer: This surprisingly common argument reflects several levels of ignorance about evolution. The first mistake is that evolution does not teach that humans descended from monkeys; it states that both have a common ancestor. The deeper error is that this objection is tantamount to asking, "If children descended from adults, why are there still adults?" New species evolve by splintering off from established ones, when populations of organisms become isolated from the main branch of their family and acquire sufficient differences to remain forever distinct. The parent species may survive indefinitely thereafter, or it may become extinct. "
I think that the reason why people don't believe in evolution is because they learned it completely wrong. When asked to explain evolution, all they can say is "its ridiculous to think we evolved from monkeys." Well, that perception of evolution is completely wrong. In terms of science, evolution is not purely a gradual change. Evolution has to do with adaptation, genetics, and natural selection. If you don't know much about these subjects, then it's ignorant to discard evolution. Evolution has just been taught completely incorrectly in our school systems, especially in America. I just think that is hugely unfortunate. It's easier to discard a concept and label it dumb than to actually learn about it, and I think that's what's happening with evolution.
