The "Nguyen" question

Yup, in ancient times they named like their king - so everyone who belonged to
the last dynasty (Nguyen dynasty) were called Nguyen.

So Bao Dai is guilty ha?

In olden times King Nguyen forced people to change their last name to Nguyen. If they did not they were killed.
Thats why so many Viets have their last name as Nguyen. Some people that don't have their last name as Nguyen might have changed their last name after the reign of the King Nguyen ended.
Nguyen is a common last name to Viets.

I think it's OK for a Nguyen to marry another Nguyen as long as they are not from the same village.

 

My company alone has more the 30 nguyen(S).
