^ haven't been able to justify grabbin a xps yet...maybe for my next laptop i'll get one of those M1330...only draw back is all of these xps systems only ship with vista :S

well i don't like dells anyway so it would be a gd enough logic, but then again i'm not gonna get an e-pc as there is no need for it. besides i think the keypad is too small for my liking.

Any news on Asus' non-eee pc version of this ultra lightweight laptop PC? I remember hearing about it a while back, or is it already out? Which would just equate to me losing a few luxuries to save up for it...

Won't say I am particularly impressed by the Dell, since the next gen eee pc is going to be rocking with an 9-inch screen too, and I believe it's around the same price range (in which case, Asus > Dell)

Fire at The Planet takes down thousands of websites

A fire at The Planet's H1 data center in Houston, Texas on Saturday has taken out thousands of websites.

In messages posted on the web hosting firm's forum, the company blamed a faulty transformer for the fire. No servers or networking equipment were damaged, but the data centre remains without power, after The Planet shut down all generators "as instructed by the fire department.

About 9,000 servers and 7,500 customers are affected by the outage. B3ta.com, a popular British comedy site, is a high profile casualty.

Eee Box B202 Final Specs

The week of Computex 2008 has begun, and you'd probably know just by checking out the onslaught of ASUS news here lately. Up next is the hotly-debated Eee Box B202, which we now know the final specifications for -- reportedly, at least. HotHardware has it that the mini desktop will exhibit a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, a 80/120/160/250GB hard drive, GMA 950 integrated graphics set, gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, optional Bluetooth, a multicard reader, 512MB/1GB/2GB of DDR2 RAM and an Azalia ALC888 audio chip; you'll also find a pair of USB 2.0 ports, DVI out and a headphone jack, but an optical drive is altogether missing. We're hearing that US configurations will range from $269 to $299 with your choice of Linux or Windows XP, with availability in mid-July.

Acer Spire One Netbook

Guess what? We're off the Eee (and your mama) and onto the launch of the competition. This time, it's Acer's Aspire One. The Atom-based, 8.9-inch, 1024 x 600 pixel laptop runs your choice of XP or Linux and packs 802.11b/g WiFi, up to 1GB of memory, an 8GB SSD or 2.5-inch 80GB, SD card slot, and optional 6-cell battery. It'll also sport an integrated WiMax module when the networks finally light up. Expected to hit the US in September for $399 (that's still unofficial) with a 3-cell, 2200mAh battery, standard. Dell Studio Hybrid

Cat's out of the bag: we're nerds, and can't think of a better way to spend a Tuesday morning than to shuffle through endless configuration pages, trying to build the best bang-for-buck Studio Hybrid on the internet. Dell's product page for the new mini desktop -- which was released last night -- is now online, and offers up that fabled $499 configuration, in addition to some rather spendy siblings. For instance, if you want to go bamboo that's an extra $130 right out of the gate, a display will cost you $200 minimum, it's $50 to bump the Hybrid up to 2GB of RAM, that Blu-ray drive is a hefty $250 add-on, and WiFi will cost you $70. There's no option for discreet graphics -- that's no surprise -- and the TV tuner option is of the USB dongle variety. Luckily some of Dell's pre-configured versions come with decent "Instant Savings," but it's clear Dell is going for a slightly premium, design-conscious consumer here, not the spendthrift.

Leaf (who once claimed to have invented the first digital camera) have come up with the world's 56 megapixel camera (AFi 10). If that wasn't enough, it also comes equipped with Verto Technology so you don't have to rotate the camera to take portrait shots. With a camera like that, you'll have to stock up on your memory cards as well as start pumping some weights to be able to adapt to holding such a large piece of equipment per shot. Rumoured to be on sale as early as the end of this year, this little baby is going to break the bank starting at around US$43 625. It makes you wonder if bigger is really better.

Google Chrome Browser

Google today will release a beta of their open source web browser named Google Chrome which is based partly on the Webkit open source web engine. Some online sites received early notice of this release in the form of a comic book explaining the browser details. This set the blogosphere ablaze over the slow technology holiday weekend. Several sites have already pronounced Google Chrome a “Windows Killer” due to their belief that running applications in a browser is the wave of the future and if someone were to release a better browser - that the need for Microsoft Windows could be reduced or eliminated. The first beta release of Google Chrome will be available for Windows with later releases available for Mac and Linux and presumably mobile platforms.
