The fake pics will obvious piss him off, he had such high expectations and than the true hits him hard. That trust is all gone, don't even bother trying to resolve it, you just don't know if he'll take revenge of some type. What he is doing is pretty immature as well but you just found out a part of his true self even though he has the right to be somewhat angry. Just move on.
Online relationships...meh, I don't believe in that although i know a few successful couples that met online. As they mentioned before, your honesty is the problem here, I dont know how old are you or how do you look like but if you really wanted something with him them you should've been sincere with him. It's like you were selling him an IPhone but in the end he was getting a Nokia 3310. No offense of course but you gave him some sort of fake hope to meet a girl like the one in your avatar which you are not.

I think any guy out there would stop conversing with you if you're a fake. Even if he eventually do open up to you again, the trust will never be the same. Best to move on and find yourself any dude or better yet gal ..lol

There is nothing wrong with having an altered ego that is fake! A virtual reality can be as useful as reality itself. I would not dwell on this too much as most people are fake some of the time on the net. However away from the social media it is better to be more genuine.
