I'm having trouble understanding this question because I don't know how to play baseball and I don't know the rules.
So, I don't know anything about baseball.

    The question seems pretty easy.
I already did questions a), which is just converting miles to feet, then---- displacement = velocity X time
    I'm stuck on question b). I don't get what's going on.

Can someone explain what is happening?
    or draw a picture. lol
or you can do the question if that helps.
    -^_^
    Thank you.

From what I'm getting out of B is that you need to calculate the time of the ball's speed between pitcher and batter minus the time the batter needs to get the tip of his bat over the home plate.

EDIT: The time the ball needs to travel from pitcher to batter*

    What's home plate?
Can someone do the question for me instead. I feel confused. lol
    :p

  4. No.

If you want to fail your courses, we'll do the questions for you. You will NOT learn without doing it yourself. Do whatever it takes to understand the problem, i.e. research about baseball if you have to.

    Baseball - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Wrigley_field_720.jpg" class="image"><img alt="Wrigley field 720.jpg" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9f/Wrigley_field_720.jpg/300px-Wrigley_field_720.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/9/9f/Wrigley_field_720.jpg/300px-Wrigley_field_720.jpg

But anyways, a huge pet peeve of mine is when people go "do this question for me"

you can ask for help, advice and explanation, but don't ever ask for people to do it for you. This applies to the Java thread as well.

The spot the batter swings his bat to hit the ball.

lol, you`re right. I was just confused about what it meant by ``get the tip of his bat over home plate.``
    I get it now thanks.

  7. but yea, i read the question, and im not sure why they worded it that way >.> we should be thinking about the physics of it, not try to understand how the game works -lol

Actually, I'm still stuck on b).

    For a), my answer is 7.64 X 10^(-3) s.

The time it takes for the pitcher to the home plate is faster than the time the batter reacts.

If the ball is moving so fast, the batter has to react before the pitcher throws the ball.
uhmm, what does react mean? lol
I'm confused. Please help me. :(
    Thank you.

My calculations say batter's got about 0.26 seconds to respond.

So, I've given an answer now, but it's still not finished. You still need to find your way to that answer :)

  10. Reaction time is for example,

it takes x amount of time to reach to the the plate, u will have to add the reaction time to x to find the total time.

    The total time is 7.64 X 10^(-3) s + 0.2s = 0.20764s

So the patter takes 0.20764s to react?

    Is this right? :)

  12. no that is not correct. to change from hrs to s u have to take the number the hr multiply by the number of seconds in an hr.

    so u have to take 0.20 + x

where x is the one u have to convert

    OMG, I got 0.258s. I'm a genius. Just kidding :p

    Thanks for helping me.

For c), the speed of the ball is 88.0 ft/s and the reaction time is 0.255s.

The speed of softball travels slower than the fastbal. Since the distance of the softball is shorter than in a professional baseball's distance, the time for the softball to reach the home plate will be shorter. Therefore the reaction time will be shorter. If the distance of the softball from the pitcher to the batter is 60.5ft, time traveled will be 0.688s and reaction time will be 0.488s.

    What else should I write?

  16. Looks fine, therefore statements shouldnt be long anyways. Maybe include calculations on how u got these values?
