Practice makes perfect (or is it practise makes perfect?) Keep it up. *Tip #1 I personally like putting simple borders. (A) 1) New Layer 2) Ctrl +A > Stroke 3 Black Pixel Inside 3) Stroke 2 White Pixel Inside 4) Stroke 1 Black Pixel Inside 5) Adjust opacity to suit your preference (B) Dark Images: 1) New Layer > Ctrl+A > Stroke 2 pixel inside white (blending mode overlay) Light Images: 1) New Layer > Ctrl+A > Stroke 2 pixel inside black (blending mode overlay) *Tip 2 Gaussian Blur > Gives you that dreamy effect *Tip 3 You can do final adjustments 1) Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Brightness/Contrast (I usually decrease brightness and increase contrast) 2) Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Curves (You can move the curve around to get the colouring right) Original Border Style A Border Style B with Gaussian Blur I'll show you an example when I wake up PS: Shouldn't avatars have your name on it?
