Come Home Love 2 <愛·回家II> has been met with viewer criticism since its broadcast in July. Shadowed by the original Come Home Love <愛·回家> sitcom, the sequel seemed to be a disappointment for fans and has been unsuccessful in generating high viewership ratings. Due to the poor feedback, TVB reportedly plans to film a new series that will replace Come Home Love 2 starting in March 2016.

The majority of the criticism towards Come Home Love 2 is directed at its plot. Viewers claim the storyline is lame because it either focuses on fighting for the affection of girls or the scheming that takes place among those who work for a dried seafood business. Compared to the heartwarming tales that revolved around the Ma family in the original series, viewers state the sequel is desperately lacking in terms of familial qualities.

Tabloid reports earlier purported that the original cast would return in the sequel. The good news seems to be true, since Evergreen Mak (麥長青) and Kelvin Lee (李興華) recently uploaded photos of themselves and the cast on their social media profiles. One photo showed Lau Dan (劉丹) and Yvonne Lau (林漪娸) eating abalone in a dried seafood shop. Furthermore, Joey Law (羅天宇) left a comment that stated they are finally filming together again. Although the rest of the original cast members are nowhere to be seen, it is predicted that they would all return to save the plunging viewership ratings.

Yep, already posted that photo in the CHL thread hoping people would notice.

Audience don't know what's good until it's gone. Hopefully Ma Family can bring the good reception back and maybe go on further than March b/c that's when the supposedly new sitcom with Wayne and Theresa Mo is starting.

IMO, it's a waste for Wayne to be in a sitcom but majority loves him so there's that. But TBH I'd rather prefer the old cast than a photography sitcom.

shinobi That's Hung Wai in the middle I think :boblaff:

The cast can save it, but it takes a LEGIT STORY to capture audiences. It was obvious from the beginning that the whole story would be focused on the lame illogical love triangle. Instead of being creative and making each short episode like before, part 2 has episodes being tangled against each other. Come Home Love 1 was able to deliver because each episode was clean, it had a story, and it delivered. Come Home Love 2 failed because each episode tried to lead onto the next, but the flow never made any sense.

    For once, I agree.

Sure you have the long-term story like the love lines, but a lot of CHL mini stories were completed in one episode, or at most 2 episodes then we move on. So even if you skip a bunch of episodes, you don't really miss that much. You could call them "fillers" if you want but at least they were entertaining still. Rarely you would see them drag on one topic for months being the primary focus. Chi Yan and Pinky, Lai Goo and Ah Wick/Leurng Fun dragged on for a long time, but at least there were fillers in between so you weren't stuck with one story.

Majority of the times in CHL2 (not all), the main focus was the love triangle, and it was boring as hell. It is also what audiences has been complaining. The love triangle JUST recently ended, and it's been going on since CHL2 started. It took way too long for it to happen.

haha. Yeah. CHL1 always had a lesson in it. I think that's what made it so good. The idea that there were veterans and elders in the story made the teachings much more meaningful. I believe that's what the audiences saw and that was probably something they could relate to as well. The John Ma stuff and the funny stuff were just icing on the cake. In combination of everything, it worked.

Come Home Love would be much more successful if they could have 'special guests' on the show or something to keep the interest level up. Like if they featured Kate Tsui in a few, or introduced Liza Wang or whatever, that'd be good.
