What I'm trying to find out is if a 1.5 mbps cable modems includes a v.44 data 6:1 data compression ratio, what would the data rate in bits per second be?

I know I have to multiply something by 6 bits/symbol but I'm clueless on how to do the conversions T_T! can anyone help? I'm trying to look over the example my prof gave in class, but i'm not sure where he's getting the numbers from.
