Make sure your site has lots of Sex, Controversy, and Freebies.

Sex: talk about it, how to do it, how to get it, what to do after you get it, and what to do if after you got it from doing it.

Controversy: Get people into pro and con discussions. Nobody is ever going to be 100% correct, and no opinion is going to be 100% perfect. The more debate the better your thread counts. Just moderate the thing carefully to prevent the debates from devolving into chaos.

Freebies: Lots on the net; beauty tips, dos and don'ts, fashion disasters and the reasons why photo gallery (sans identity). Young girls will love coming to your site to know what to avoid. Boys won't admit it, but they'll look too. Get a beauty museum going. All the things that people used to do in various cultures in the pursuit of beauty. Adjunct arenas (jewelry, perfume, diets, clothing; cost versus benefits of all of the above). The latest thing in Zimbabwe versus Paris versus Beijing, whatever.

All these things are from where? The average girl or fashion magazine. The ideas are all generic but do well over time.

As for getting an audience, have friends or people you know name drop your site at other beauty discussion intensive forums. May not be ethical, but others do exactly that (purposely or not, that's how I found this site BTW). And when I say name drop, I don't mean advertise; you can talk about another discussion you had with someone and provide a link without putting up banners. Most site owners won't mind if there is a legit discussion going on by their long time or regular members and the link was provided as background info. But outright advertising by someone who just registered would probably just get you thrown out of most forums. That's the reason why people here are responding to your question, because it is a question, and not outright advertising.

And be prepared to wait. PA is great, but it didn't get this way overnight. And Good luck with your effort.

    The_Jelly NSFW? :P

Well, for your forum to be successful you need to have something that similar forums do not have. For example, PA has a wide range of download links to various types of media. Hence the large user base, and from the thousands of leeches you will find some loyal members, ex PA Vip. Once you have about 100-150 active members the forum pretty much grows on its own. Additionally I hope you aren't using pirated forum software because if you are you will get shutdown when you get a lot of traffic.

Thanks for all you replies everyone! You all have been very encouraging :) I was surprised at the number of replied since I came 2 days ago (didn't subscribed to the thread :p) Yea I have been searching around for tips too and it will be hardwork and I am prepared to lay down the groundwork. I just submitted the url to the various search engines and hopefully it will register in the next 2 weeks :)

I also spent some money :( to get like 2 forum posters to post some relevant and debatable topics on my forum to try and get some content up and going :) So now I am on the search for new members! :)

My beauty forum doesn't offer much, but I really like its design and there are some rather good articles on it, so I hope through the search engines, I will be able to get some interested members. :) But thanks again everyone!
