Good news for fans of the “Liar Game” series and Matsuda Shota, as it was announced today that a second movie will be released next spring. However, with the good news there’s some bad news for fans of Toda Erika and ‘Kanzaki Nao‘, as it was also revealed that young actress Tabe Mikako will be taking over the role of the heroine with a completely new character. “Liar Game” is based on a popular manga by Kaitani Shinobu and already spawned two live-action drama seasons and one movie, “Liar Game: The Final Stage“. The movie, that provided a satisfying conclusion to the story, was a huge success at the box office and achieved a revenue of 2.36 billion Yen (30.7 million USD). After two years and countless of requests from fans who can’t get enough of the series, it was eventually announced today, that there is going to be a second movie. In the new movie, Matsuda is going to reprise his role of the genius swindler ‘Akiyama Shinichi‘, as he is going to get dragged into a new ‘Liar Game’. The new game is going to be a modified version of musical chairs, which was created by the same investors who received a huge blow from Akiyama and Kanzaki at the end of the first movie. The said game is said to be one of the most exciting games in the manga, where it was played during the fourth round of the original story. Together with ‘Sasamiya Yuu‘, a new and original character played by Tabe, Akiyama will once again need to use all of his brilliancy in order to win this epic psychological warfare against the other players and the ‘Liar Game Tournament Office’. Matsuda commented, “When I think about it now, it was a big blessing for me to have come across the ‘Liar Game’ series. I’m grateful to for being able to experience this feeling once more.” Tabe commented, “(At first) I was hesitant and thought to myself, ‘Will I really be able to portray Yuu’s fragility and eagerness while challenging the game at the same time?’ Now I’m looking forward to work with the other actors, especially Matsuda, and the the psychological warfare that is going to unfold between us.” Furthermore, the producers of the show tried to explain differences between the new and the old heroine. They said, “Yuu’s character will be a slightly different to the ‘foolishly honest’ Kanzaki Nao that was played by Toda in the previous works. She is a typical college student, and a pure and innocent girl with a very kind character. It will be interesting to follow her development after being thrown into the world of liars. Her relationship with Akiyama is going to be another highlight of the movie.” The filming for the new “Liar Game” is planned to begin on October 10th, while the theatrical release is scheduled for March 3rd, 2012. YES, same here! I still haven't seen season 2 or the movie. I remember watching the first season and getting so angry at Erika's character, cause she was such an idiot. There's that saying, 'Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.' She was so gullible, it was ridiculous.
