Depends on what you would buy it for..like work, games, and etc.

Reviews give you better understanding of the laptop. There are many factors you simply wont know until you use the laptop for few weeks. Does it overheat? how does the keyboard feel? What are the cons.... Same specs there are dozens of brand. Some specific models have good reputation too.

Of course you can always say "screw it" and pick whichever item which catches your eye... but we are talking about getting the best bang for the buck aren't we?

Having extended support for laptops is good since the parts isnt like a desktop we can fix ourselves easily. However, keep in mind every time you take for repairs it will take you good few weeks, some laptops are just too flimsy made. Which will make you think... if you would spend more money on extended warranty, why not think about brand quality first? (you'll find info from reviews)

ye thats true, thats why the laptop i bought has a gd brand and a 2 year warranty. though mine isn't the cheapest i reckon it would be better for the long run.

i'd say get a sony vaio, dont try a dell, acer or apple. those are the worst possible companies you can buy it from.

if you want a laptop with good specs, make sure to note its battery life
my asus g1s can handle crysis, but it dies in 2 hours LOL
if i had another chance, id get asus eeepc, for school that is.

lol, just use gd old paper and pen. that way u will get all ur notes down. besides u need some form of entertainment whilst ur living in ur accomodation or it will just get boring.
@Say Jai Bao apple comps are pretty gd for work i think. the battery life is pretty gd, a lot better than many laptops out there and it loads up quickly and runs smoothly. also, its pretty light in weight.

yea. i been told that apple computers do run smoothly.. until some hardware problem kicks in. lets say your harddrive suddenly crashes and have to replace it. its not a universal hd that you can just go to the local computer store and buy one. you have to match the exact manufactured date and model number and then place an order from the apple company or find an authorized apple dealer but they dont always have what your looking for. to me thats a pain in the ass cause im a pc builder/repairer

well laptops are harder to replace hardware problems than desktops anyway. also, generally with apple u don't usually get a hardware problem. also, u can always buy an extended warranty for it. i think also that if they no longer make the part and u have a warranty with them, they just replace ur laptop with a new one.

apples do have problems, you just can't go into the software to fix it, which is why you're pretty much forced into buying their warranty package. i've also heard numerous problems like battery recalls and explosions. the hardware seems to have so many problems

i recommend HP just because i have one. they're pricey, but i've had mine for almost 3 years and i've never had any problems with hardware or anything.

so you pay more for a good laptop instead of buying an expensive one like an apple and having to pay even more for a warranty which is another couple hundred bucks, and weeks of not having your laptop when you send it to them to get it fixed/replaced.

currently I recommend getting a dell or a HP. The HP's are really kicking ass right with there better QA and customer service.

no ones recommended an ASUS ??? i've had one and its been running fine since day one. I picked it over a Dell mainly for the looks, the Dell ones are fugly and i wouldnt want to carry one out on the streets.
