Is Miss Universe Japan’s national costume a national disgrace?

    jazlynnyee Fantabulous!!!

    It would seem that a lot of internet users are upset about the “Japanese” national costume that Miss Universe Japan 2009 Emiri Miyasaka will be wearing in the big competition.

    A ZakZak article introduces the controversy to Japanese readers, revealing that many comments have criticized the design and American blogs are calling it something a porn star would wear. Photos of costumes worn by the two previous Miss Universe Japan representatives are included in the article, but neither is quite as ridiculous as the one Emiri will wear.

    Itai News has posted a record of comments left by Japanese net users, most of whom agree with the negative views expressed about the costume. In some she was described as:

    * a national disgrace
    * making fun of Japanese traditional clothing and culture
    * a stupidly designed stupid costume for a stupid person to wear
    * vulgar / perverted
    * like a kyabakura hostess
    * something akin to the emperor’s new clothes – is she surrounded by nothing but yes men?

    There are also a few comments from users who don’t see much of a problem with the costume. However, the majority of comments seemed to be negative

    The bottom is just too low for Miss Universe, it looks kinda hot but can't have something like that for this show.

    as a pagent you represent your own country and you show elegance, respect and beauty. 1st pic is too extreme, even if bottom half was cut off, the makeup gives off sexiness, bitchy and stylish messages.

    I agree with xHikarux the first one does look like something that Koda Kumi would wear for her CD covers or even for a concert xD

    the last 2 pics are okay but the first one is a little overexposed...Anyways,they really failed because that's not a costume to wear when representing your country

    I think it's actually cool, it just as revealing as the samurai one.
    If you ppl say this revealing, what about the swimsuit competition?
    I really don't get what the big deal is.

    I absolutely love the first outfit, and the photograph altogether - but I think the undergarments are a bit much...

    It looks more like a fashion shoot rather than something to represent your country with.

    I think in all honesty, they did it on purpose FOR the controversy. All press is good press, whether good or bad - so they say anyway.
