Gordon Liu (劉家輝) celebrated his 65th birthday last week, Amy Fan (樊亦敏) held a surprise birthday for him with many of his close friends attending. Despite suffering from a stroke 5 years ago, leaving Gordon with speech and mobility problems, and having financial disputes with his family and former assistants. Gordon’s health and mood seems to have vastly improved, based on the photos posted on his fan based Facebook page.

Having been entrusted as Gordon’s guardian and in charge of his wellbeing, Amy stated that seeing Gordon’s improvement in his health was a bonus, and praised Gordon for his determination and hardwork, showing that there is hope for other stroke sufferers.

Willie Wai (韋家雄), Joe Cheung (張同祖), Vincent Sze (施祖男) and some overseas fans came to attend the birthday party, including the doctors and lawyers that had helped Gordon. Despite having to stay in a wheelchair, it didn’t stop Gordon from having a good time. He was serenading the guests in English songs and playing the guitar. Amy revealed that Gordon had no clue about the surprise and thought it was a normal casual dinner but when he saw his friends, his mood livened up. A live band was organised for Gordon as he loves music, three tables were also prepared for the banquet, many of his fans flew from Holland, Canada and America to visit him, and they specially recorded some of the moments to create a mini documentary for him.

After the party, Gordon returned back to the nursing home and had to rest for several days to recuperate from the excitement. In the earlier years of recovery, Amy revealed that she was very cautious when taking Gordon out due to his frailness but now they are able to set up regular outings and music jamming sessions for Gordon as long as he is happy.

“Gordon’s motor skills are improving, even the nurses praise his hard work. Many people have told me that there is no cure for stroke patients, but Gordon is proving them different. With support from loved ones, it helps the determination of a person’s willpower to strive to become better. Seeing Gordon achieve so much with his health is the best reward for me.
