Since no one has set up a discussion thread, i may as well start one. what do ppl who have seen this series think so far? My opinion is that it isnt as hilarious as old classics, and even the famous guests including scriptwriter Wong Jing has given ratings of "7/10" and "B-" when asked by the Dodo Cheng for a score. One of the reasons i think that it is not up to previous standards is the script isnt as articulated for immediate laughs, some jokes dont evoke enough 'surprise' factor and the new version actors involved are not as experienced or talented in comedy as older generational actors were. But i think many middle aged & above people watch it to reflect and recall on Hong Kong's past culture and the best of times since "Jap tai wui yik" (mass recollection) is a really hit topic recently.
It's okay... The old ones were definitely more funny, and more amusing with all the big celebrities. They aren't able to get any famous people nowadays. The main guy is basically Ng Ka Lok and for some reason I've never liked that guy.
One of the reasons to cancel it is because doing this kind of show uses a lot of money, and requires a lot of resources and artistes to be on studio as it is live. TVB always try to find ways to cost cutting and so prefer showing 3 drama series each weeknights to fill the evening golden timeslots. Little do they realise that EYT can train new talented artistes, give them rewarding experiences that cannot be replicated within their internal training program as well as giving the audience a closer relationship with the channel.
