In a shocking development, the city of Hangzhou has allowed a McDonalds to open in one of that city's most historic locations. Instead of protecting these cultural sites, business interests, often with the aid of cronies in government, routinely bypass laws and bans on using cultural or historic venues for quick money. http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/17/travel/china-hangzhou-old-villa-mcdonalds/index.html
I don't get what the big deal is to be honest... It's not all that historic...it's an old hotel where it BRIEFLY housed a former leader...it's not like they're putting a McD inside the forbidden palace...or inside the Terracota Army site...I'll be more outraged if that happens...In my honest opinion, there's not much history for an 80ish year old villa/hotel.
