yea.. i think we should take it to a mechanic to deal with this problem though >.< kinda confusing.. and can't find the fuel filter we need also.. sigh.. lol
k&n air filter can be rinsed and reuse. u have to get filter oil. what kinda smell does it emit. if it smell like unburnt gas then your car is running rich. air to fuel ratio should be 14.7:1. you might want to check your injector rings. this cause your car to run rich. if you want a really good diagnostic, you can take out the spark plugs and see how they look. this can tell you everything how your car is running.
ok seriously guys... enuff with the air filter... the air filter would not make ur car dip 5mpg and make ur car run like sh*t... a K&N air filter is a great filter... leave it alone... when oil burns the exhaust is BLUE... NOT grey/black... that's when ur running too rich... u can just go to the dealer and pick up a fuel filter from them if kragen/autozone doesn't have them... as odd as it sounds... databeast actually has an interesting idea w/ the dead animals haha... but ralliart got it down... check ur spark plugs if one's broken/cracked obviously ur gonna lose a cylinder which would make ur car run like sh*t... and since ralliart's got spark plugs and a/f running rich, then i'm putting my money on a plugged cat -^_^
ok.. if it was the heater that is broken... then i wouldn't have heat anymore? which i do have heat... and if it was the water that is leaking... my car would be overheated by now? which it isnt.
Does it smells like a rotten egg? I'm willing to bet the catalytic converter needs to be changed. A bad cat will kill your gas mileage as well (which you are experiencing).
We're changing the Idle Control Valve and i dont know what's with it.. but it seems like oil is going in the manifold or whatever it is..? anyone have any clue? can't really tell by the pictures.. but there are some mainly dried oil inside it i think.. not sure.. only my dad was looking closely.. didn't really pay attention to it for me.. so help please >.< when we wiped it clean with a towel, it smells like gasoline, don't know what is wrong with it? anyone have any idea? im wondering if anyone can help out >.< our car is getting less than 20 mile per gallon now.. used to be 23-25 mpg.. by the way.. when we decelerate then accelerate.. it shakes..
errrr were u getting poor idling or stalling? cuz if u weren't it might not be the ICV, b4 replacing it, try running a cleaner through it first... and when it shakes... is there a certain speed it does that at? or whenever u decel then accel?
well. i had 1 time stalling today... when we just restarted the car... after like 20 minute... and it happens whenever decel then accel.
Doesn't sound like a ICV problem to me. A little dark residue is common in a lot of engine parts. If oil was consistently getting inside, it would CLEAN the area and make it feel oily. It wouldn't dry up. You not being able to describe what the smell is doesn't help your cause at all. Find a local car buddy or it's time to take it to the dealer. Whenever my friends car shows harsh accelerating or decelerating, I always recommend them to stop driving it as it affects their safety greatly.
the tranny should be the reason why the car is shaking while decel/accel, it could also be affecting the fuel economy.
can't be the transmission problem. had the transmission for more than 2 years now.. can't really get worse since its already somewhat dead transmission.. its something wrong with the engine.. and the oil inside the manifold my dad says it smells like gasoline.. so we're not sure..
Fuel Injectors spray gasoline into your engine via the manifold. If you did a test engine run, then took off pipes leading to the manifold, it'll always smell like gasoline due to left over gas vapors. FYI: Engine oil and gasoline smells NOTHING alike. So if you smell gas, that means it's gas.
Did you check engine light came on? Check your spark plugs and spark plug wires. By changing those two items, you can increase your gas mileage a lot. Your air filter mention above is also something to look at. When is the last time you guys change the oil and oli filter? Lastly, check the oxygen sensors, they might be bad or rusted.
Could be a bad carburetor/throttle, EGR valve, your engine's not getting the proper fuel:air mixture, loss of compression in the engine, it could be numerous things, not knowing what the smell is really doesn't help.
