Wong Jing Cutting Ties With Celebrities Over Occupy Central

With the Occupy Central protest heating up controversy in Hong Kong, many celebrities have supported the pro-democracy movement. However, director Wong Jing‘s (王晶) comments that the police should use force against the protesters heavily upset the citizens of Hong Kong.

Wong Jing posted on his Sina Weibo blog, “I support the police! They’re only doing their job and you splash urine on them? You can’t complain if you are beaten to death! I don’t think you’ve been beaten enough!”

Unfriends Anthony Wong, Chapman To, and Denise Ho

Wong Jing is known for his outspokenness and frank behavior. Aside from lashing out at the Occupy Central protesters, he openly stated that he will unfriend Anthony Wong (黃秋生), Chapman To (杜汶澤), and Denise Ho (何韻詩), who have shown their avid support for Occupy Central. Wong Jing stated that he will respect Anthony, Chapman, and Denise’s political stands, but will officially be cutting all ties with the three artistes. He will discontinue all forms of communication with them.

In response, Anthony called Wong Jing’s actions very childish. Also known for his blunt behavior, Chapman said, “I don’t see him talking about Chow Yun Fat (周潤發) like that!” On the other hand, Denise chose not to comment any further on the topic and simply responded that she will not care about such trivial matters.

Netizens Curse Wong Jing

After witnessing Wong Jing’s extreme actions, some netizens called him out for his disappointing behavior. One netizen furiously wrote, “If teacher [Wong Tin Lam 王天林] were still alive and knew that his son jumped the bandwagon, would he strangle himself with his waistband?” Wong Jing angrily replied, “My old papa and I will [expletive] you [expletive]!”

Some netizens openly declared boycotting Wong Jing’s films. Even those who have been avid fans for years expressed disappointment in the director’s political stance and cursed the entire Wong family, threatening to beat up Wong Jing if he appears in Guangdong. Unable to stand the insults, Wong Jing retaliated, “Tomorrow I’m coming [to Guangdong]. If you can’t beat me up, then your whole family will have feces [expletive] cancer!”

However, some agreed with Wong Jing’s support of police force and praised him for speaking the truth and being straightforward.
