A woman who discovered she has the rare BRCA 2 gene has had a preventative double mastectomy and posted her post-op photos on Facebook. http://uk.lifestyle.yahoo.com/woman...on-facebook--loses-100-friends-181745855.html It is very brave to undergo such surgeries; however, I wonder if it sends the wrong message to women in general. Yes ... having the gene means your probability of getting breast cancer is very high yet taking such drastic preventive measure is a bit too much. Don't ya'll think?
Not really. Given that breasts and a uterus aren't really a necessity organ like heart and lungs, preemptive removal to prevent an impending life threatening disease is sound judgment. She made a very smart choice.
