LONDON (Reuters) - A housewife was found guilty on Tuesday of trying to murder her husband by lacing his curry with anti-freeze in an attempt to cash in on his life insurance. Lee Knight was left blind, deaf and brain damaged after emerging from a 16-week coma. Kate Knight, 28, of Stoke-on-Trent, was convicted of poisoning her 37-year-old husband because she wanted to claim his 130,000-pound life insurance policy to pay off her debts. She had denied lacing her factory worker husband's red wine and curry with anti-freeze in 2005 on their seventh wedding anniversary. A jury at Stafford Crown Court took almost nine hours to find her guilty of attempted murder. A court spokeswoman said Knight will be sentenced on a date to be set after Judge Simon Tonking revoked her bail. Police said she had accumulated debts without her husband's knowledge. She had researched the toxic effects of the antifreeze in depth and had hoped to cause him to have kidney failure and a heart attack, which would have killed him. In a statement read out by a Staffordshire police spokesman, Lee Knight said the incident had left his life in ruins as he had lost all his independence. "I realised that my wife had left me -- I lost my job, my house, everything I worked for and, worst of all, my (nine year-old) son (Jack)," his statement said. "Kate has ruined my life and what she did will have a big effect on Jack's future." The officer in charge, Detective Constable Martin Smith, said in a statement he was very pleased with the outcome but hit out at the defiant Knight for committing the cowardly crime. "Despite the weight of evidence against her, Kate Knight refused to co-operate throughout," he said outside court. "Her cowardly crime almost caused the death of Lee Knight whose blindness is a life sentence in itself."

that is extremely crude. i guess it shows the importance in picking the right woman for marriage. tbh she seems to be quite mad even coming up with the idea in the first place. she should definately rot in jail. worse thing is there's a kid as well. how will he feel and what would have happened if her husband died. would she have then bought the child life insurance and killed him also?
