SHEPHERDSTOWN, West Virginia (AP) -- A father and his two sons died Saturday in an apparent murder-suicide at Shepherd University, authorities said. Douglas W. Pennington, 49, shot sons Logan, 26, and Benjamin, 24, before shooting himself with a .38 caliber revolver on the university campus, state police said. Both sons were identified as Shepherd students. Police said the elder Pennington traveled to the campus to visit his sons, but offered no reason for the shootings. The gunfire occurred about 2 p.m. ET in a parking lot, near residence halls on the campus's west side. The Penningtons were pronounced dead at local medical facilities. "We are stunned to hear about this terrible tragedy," University President David Dunlop said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims." University spokeswoman Valerie Owens described the campus as quieter than usual this weekend because many students have gone for the Labor Day holiday. About one-quarter of Shepherd's 4,000 students live in campus residence halls and apartments. University counselors have been talking to students all afternoon and a formal counseling session on campus Saturday evening. Owens had no information on whether any students or faculty witnessed the shootings. Shepherdstown is in eastern West Virginia, about 80 miles northwest of Washington Or A teenager was sentenced to 53 years in prison for killing a new schoolmate who showed interest in boys she had dated.Judge James Teros called the killing "a murder over nothing." Sarah Kolb, 18, had been convicted in February of first-degree murder and concealing a homicide in the death last year of Adrianne Reynolds, 16. Kolb's ex-boyfriend pleaded guilty to the same charges. Kolb read a statement to the judge after witnesses testified that she was a good friend and student who endured a tough upbringing that included being locked in her room as punishment and being harassed because of her bisexuality. Kolb said such experiences left her numb, unable to experience emotion. "I was so good at not feeling that I felt no feeling as she died," Kolb said. Prosecutors said Kolb and Cory Gregory killed Reynolds in Kolb's car over their school lunch hour, then took the body to Kolb's grandparents' farm and burned it. The pair returned two days later with a third teen and sawed the body into pieces, dumping some remains on the farm and burying the rest in a state park, according to prosecutors. Defense attorney David Hoffman sought the minimum 20-year sentence, saying Kolb was just 16 at the time of the killing and not mature enough to make sound decisions. Gregory is seeking to withdraw his guilty plea and stand trial after being sentenced in July to the maximum 45 years in prison allowed under a plea agreement. Gregory, 18, is scheduled to appear in court September 21. The third teen pleaded guilty last year to concealing a homicide and was sentenced to an indeterminate time in a juvenile detention center.
whoa both are pretty uffed up... i guess the second case is worse... for one.. they still teens... still have quite a life ahead of 'em.. whereas the first case... everyone's dead already... lol.. as bad as that sounds.. but yea... def the 2nd case with the whole sawing of the body... ;
Yeah I agree with Ecko. Both cases are both equally tragic to me. A parent killing his own kids and teenagers engaging in homocide (for crazy reasons) is pretty messed up. What is this world coming to? :(
Which do you consider worse? The fact that the insame father killed his own children, his own flesh for no apparent reason or the insane girl whos just beyond help.
I think you missed my point. What I meant was that you shouldn't be comparing the two cases like this. It seems inconsiderate or lack of respect or something. So what if either 'wins'? Will it improve the situation for either family? Will they be happier? Will they be happy that their family's tragedy have been put on the scales for comparison so recklessly?
on the flipside... young Logan and Benjamin had been feuding over who deserves more assets of their father's will... feeling that their father already lived a full life... they had devised a plan to kill their father and collect his assets.. unfortunately for them... Douglas W. Pennington, their father, was one step ahead of them and killed both his sons before commiting suicide... Adrianne Reynolds, was not only the most popular, but also the richest girl in school.. raised in a wealthy family, Adrianne sought pleasure in tormenting those who were less fortunate than she was... Knowing of Sarah Kolb's suicidal behavior... Adrianne thought that she could make Sarah angry by pretending to steal her boyfriend.. Unfortunately Sarah did not take the news well and decided to kill Adrianne with the help of her boyfriend.... now which case is worse??
you can't really say which murder case is worse than any other murder case. any kind of case where people are killing other people is just wrong.
wow... wot da hell's wrong with people these days... sons trying to kill their own father... rich biatch trying to screw up ppl's life... the government should offer a free mental check up for everyone once in a yr or 2... so sad...
-lol-lol-lol actually i made those scenarios up as kinda like a twist to those cases.. but both cases are not worse... they're actually equally better cuz those crazy fools won't be let back into society...
o... woops... pretty good tho... u should start posting in the fanfic forum... i'll b ur reader for sure... but i seriously do think those ppl need a mental check up... most ppl out there have depression... some might not b very serious... others might turn into murders
ahhh... him... yeah... he's crazy... the young guys isn't a lot better either... he wanna stick up for his mum but he's too much of a whimp... i'd b so ashamed if i knew that guy...
