    Hey PAers,

I'm stuck, I haven't designed a webpage in a long time now...like 3 years, and everything has changed drastically. Frontpage is gone, and most people have shifted away from XHTML, and css, to asp, and jsp.

I need to get back into this game. Which web developer tool should I use now? Apparently Frontpage is gone...? I'm left with two choices, Dreamweaver (which I never used before) or Frontpage's replacement Microsoft Web Expression.

Any suggestions? I'm trying to build a webpage that has similar features to the Beijing olympics webpage to make my own webpage have interactivie elements like that. And FYI, i'm going to download the better of the two programs...lol, (as IF i'd buy).

  2. as a website designer and owner of a website designing business, i can probably help you out on that.

it all depends on the type of site you're designing, for example, if you design a gaming site, what you can do, is use photoshop in conjunction with dreamweaver or any web designing program. basically in a nutshell, you design your page to how you like it on photoshop, slice it up, and use a web design program to publish it.

or you can design a flash based website using macromedia flash. the options go on.

moreover, you can actually incorporate java programming into the websites. i don't have much experiences with that unfortunately.

but to answer your question, i myself use the macromedia set, which includes dreamweaver, flash and fireworks.

anyways, if you're interested in the photoshop way of making sites, kontradictions is a pro at that lol

If I were to do something with similar features to the beijing olympics website, what would be the best thing to use? Like the photoscroll with news updates.

Web design = The actual designing of the website. This is where you decide how the site looks. This is not the process where you fill the site with content. Getting the website functional and online is a separate entity.

well im used to using Dreamweaver, but since Web Expression is a replacement for Frontpage, maybe u should use that, but in my Case, i never used Web Expression so i wouldnt know if its better or worst than Dreamweaver, Just Pick Dreamwaver , its pretty easy to pick up anyway

i don't really like what they did with expressions...frontpage was easy to use, but since moving to dreamweaver i kinda like it a lot better than microsofts version
