Anyone watching this? It's like a cross between the old Kung Fu series and The Sopranos with a bit of Game of Thrones thrown in, LOL... What I find interesting about this series is that its setting seems historically accurate, as well as the political pressures on the people of that era. What's great about this show too, is that it's directed toward western audiences, where 'Chinese' dialog suddenly becomes perfect English, so that American audiences can watch and understand without having to look at subtitles. Here's youtube link to the trailer... Oh, and a media historical footnote; this type of show depiction, of Chinese in 1800's San Francisco, was originally the idea of martial arts legend Bruce Lee. He had reportedly pitched this to executives in the US media industry but was rebuffed. Then, to his surprise, a new show (at the time) called "Kung Fu" starring a white man portraying a Chinese martial arts immigrant in the old west, was shown on national television using many of his ideas and suggestions. They had stolen his ideas. So in a sense, this show was what Bruce Lee really wanted to make. Kung Fu was just a bad ripped off version of his writings.
Just saw somewhere on line that they're going to be renewed for season 2. I think it's a great show and glad they're coming back for a second season.
Really enjoyed the pilot...felt well made with high production value (there must have been THOUSANDS of extras on set). Lots of great fight scenes and it was true to Skinemax's name! Will watch this season! happy wheels
