Opps, I accidently offered to bring my Boss and his Girlfriend to Dim Sum cause they want to try it but at the time i totally forgot that they are vegetarian crap, so what do i get for them? they do eat seafood and i eggs and milk so i've got egg tarts mushroom rice rolls diakon cakes shrimp dumplings . . . mango pudding now i'm stuck what else? we're in an area with rich white people so there is only one dim sum place around (for white people) so selection is limited
They only don't eat meat than?(are you still a vegetarian than?) Egg tarts use lard (pork fat), and actually a lot of dishes that seems vegetarian uses lard. But if that doesn't matter you can always ask the waiter for suggetions as the Chinese kitchen is used to the vegetarian people on the 1st and 15th of the Chinese calendar. you named: egg tarts (lard) mushroom rice rolls diakon cakes (contains chinese sausage usually) shrimp dumplings . . . mango pudding Also try: Lotusnut/red bean paste Buns (Lin Yung Pow/ Tau Sa Pow) Char Leung (Fried Yao Char Kwai with Rice Sheet) Har Cheung Fan (Shrimp with Rice Sheet) Ma Thai Ko (waterchestnut pudding) Ma lai Ko (Steamed sponge cake) Vegetarian dumplings Fried Mantao (plain buns with condensed milk) That should be enough for the 3 of you
^Nice veggie dimsum list Erm, how about the slices of seacucumber and Thousand Year Eggs (Pei Dahn)? Dunno whether it's a standard dish though, they have it in my city at least. One of my favs Sticky Rice (shrimp version) And perhaps tell the waiters you absolutely don't want meat and ask them what they would recommend you?
i love nai yau pao (buttermilk bun) and kai pao jai(mini chicky bun)...as a vegetarian they should know better what they can or cannot eat...but to be safe you just need to confirm further with the waiters as suggested..
thats heaps.. n n u should ask ur boss if they take garlic n onions... cos some vegetarians i know.. they dont eat them.. i was told by "someone" never to ask for recommendations.. cos they might give u stuff that's gonna go off
for the egg tarts, i forgot about the lard, but actually it depends on the crust, if it's the flaky crust than it's butter, if it's the solid crust . . . lard also for the long list, thanks although i doubt that half of these items are at the resturant totally not standard
ooh.. if the lard thing is a problem.. (trust me.. they use lard in the flaky pastry too.. i don't.. but i don't sell my tarts ) Most of the Chinese Buns also use lard in the recipe ! To make it even more difficult.. Mango pudding can go both ways.. if it is made from Agar Agar (seaweed) than it is ok.. if it is gelatine.. that is a no no for vegatarians.. But >_< if you don't tell.. i won't..
oh yea, all steam buns are made with lard and the baked ones are made with butter crap with the mango pudding too they aren't buddist
is as good as the non-veg one The vegtarian dim sum is just as good as the non-veg one because it looks very much like the real one anyway
some yum cha stuff.. without meat.. desert: get the mango pudding.. cocunut pudding.. im pretty sure you can them vegetarian spring rolls or something like that...
Actually...this is one of the few sensible things kdot have said... As far I know the bigger temples will serve tasty veggie food and it won't cost you that much. The question is whether there's a temple close enough to pay a visit.
