TVB Shows Might For Olympic Video

In the run up to the coverage of this year's Beijing Olympic Games, TVB called together a group of nearly a hundred artistes and singers today to film a music video to the station's Olympic theme song "Glorious Land" <光輝大地>. The shoot took place in two parts, firstly on location at the waterfront and then in the studios.

Among those taking part in the video were Joey Yung (容祖兒), Eason Chan (陳奕迅), Hacken Lee (李克勤), Leo Ku (古巨基), Juno Mak (麥浚龍), Shirley Yeung (楊思琦), Bernice Liu (廖碧兒), Alex Fong (方力申) and Fiona Sit (薛凱琪).

Charlene Choi (蔡卓妍) was due to attend, but was absent due to illness. Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) and Kelly Chen (陳慧琳) were notably excluded from proceedings due to their decision not to extend their contracts with TVB.

During the location shoot, Eason and Joey were arranged to stand on top of two podiums, perhaps reflective of their status among the station's contracted singers. TVB's mascot TVBuddy adorned with his special Olympic icon also made an appearance.

Talking about Miriam's exclusion from the shoot, Joey said diplomatically that maybe it was Miriam who was busy and could not attend. She added that it did seem somewhat quieter without Miriam's presence. She denied that she had less competition now and said that she understood Miriam's desire to broaden her horizons.

Leo was asked if he also has plans to end his relationship with TVB and he emphasised that he still has a contract with TVB, but he did not know when it expires. Asked about Miriam's departure, Leo said that he was not aware of this, but he understood that sometimes artistes and companies do not share the same opinions. He was then asked if TVB is for life and he replied cautiously that even marriage is not always for life, so there are no guarantees. However, as he started his career at TVB, so it will always be a special place for him.

Eason revealed that he still has another two or three years contracted to the company and he felt that television is an ideal medium for singers to promote their work, so he will always consider carefully when he makes any decisions. He said that he was glad to have had many opportunities to sing in different places and he will just concentrate on doing his job well.

Hacken has decided to cover the opening and closing ceremonies of the games in Beijing for TVB. He will be working alongside Carol Cheng (鄭裕玲), so knowing this has put him at ease. He said that this was an unmissable opportunity. Hacken laughed that with prices for the opening ceremony being pushed up to HK$100,000, he felt that it was like someone had given him a valuable gift and he was very excited.

Following the recent death of retired sporting commentator Ng Fong Wing (伍晃榮), Hacken expressed his sadness for the departure of his 2006 World Cup co-host. He said that Ng was a very professional man, but had a great sense of humour.

There have been reports recently suggesting that Edison Chen (陳冠希) has challenged Juno to a face-to-face discussion to argue out their differences. When asked for a response, Juno said that he would not take up the offer because it was not necessary and he did not want it to turn into a petty slanging match. Asked if he felt that Edison was being ungracious, Juno declined to comment, saying that he did not know Edison very well and he was only interested in doing his own work well.

A spot of careful planning for the video paired Juno with Shirley for a table tennis match against the Edison-backed group FAMA (農夫). Despite posing for photos together with his opponents, Juno seemed a little uncomfortable and made sure that Shirley stood in between.
