Deal Or No Deal 一擲千金 First Aired 29th Otober, 2006 - Every Sunday, 9.30pm (HK time) @ Jade TV Host Michael Hui Info Deal or No Deal is a television game show format owned by Dutch-based production company Endemol, known for creating such shows as Big Brother and Fear Factor. Australia ran the first international version of the gameshow. The basic format of Deal or No Deal consists of a number of cases (usually 26, but varies in some countries) each containing a different amount of money. Not knowing the sum of money in each case, the contestant picks one case which potentially contains the contestant's prize. They then open the remaining cases, one by one, revealing the money they contained. At predetermined intervals the contestant receives an offer from the bank (run by "The Banker") to purchase the originally chosen case from the contestant, the offer being based on the potential value of the contestant's case. The contestant must then decide whether to take the deal from the bank, or to continue opening cases. If the contestant decides not to take the deal and reveals low value cases, then the next bank offer is likely to be higher (as the contestant's case is proven not to contain these low values). Alternatively, there is risk in revealing higher values, lowering future offers from the bank. The aim of this system is to try to make an exciting and suspenseful game. As for The HK version, Deal or No Deal is produced by TVB. It currently casting through its website and its magazine, and is scheduled to be broadcast on October 29 at 9:30pm. It will be hosted by Michael Hui. The grand prize will be HK$3,000,000 (about US$384,615). The name of Deal or No Deal in Chinese is 一擲千金, a 4-character phrase literally translated as 'Stake a thousand pieces of gold in one throw' (一 = one, 擲 = throw/cast, 千 = thousand, 金 = gold). Metaphorically, this can mean "Throw away money like dirt" or "Spend money like water". I loved it when it was on television -- the English one, that is. The comments the Banker throws at the contestants are hilarious. The value the Banker offers for the contestant's cases, I think, are computer calculated and generated, though.
i just finished the first episode, not too great, and i doubt that the guests will be too good, maybe mostly old ppl.
wow oh wow can't believe they have deal or no deal in chinese too now lol i guess i'll give an eposide a try in chinese but it gets so intense sometimes when the contestant keeps on going when they should stop >.<
