本年度的《全港大專生機械人大賽》已經踏入第八屆，名為《水燈燭影匯暹羅》。今年共有八支參賽隊伍，分別來自香港大學、香港科技大學、香港中文大學、香港理工大學、香港城市大學及香港專業教育學院。學生們將透過機械設計及電腦程式撰寫，在比賽場上一較高下，爭奪代表香港於八月份遠赴曼谷參加國際賽的機會。 冠軍隊伍將代表香港，參加由亞太廣播聯盟主辦的《二○一一年機械人大賽》，與來自亞太區其他國家及地區的大專生，競逐亞太區機械人大賽冠軍之殊榮。今屆賽事以主辦國泰國傳統慶典祭品水燈為主題。 今屆比賽亦以模仿安裝水燈為目標。參賽隊伍需要利用他們自製的手動及自動機械人，配合隊員之間的合作，在3分鐘內，於比賽場上按先後次序安裝水燈，並投放到河面上，把燭焰置頂，方為完成「燈火通明」。 Google translated This year's "Hong Kong college students robot contest" has entered the eighth, called "water candle shadow exchange Siam."
