TVB dramas Return of the Silver Tongue <舌劍上的公堂> and Coffee Cat Mama <貓屎媽媽> both received less-than-stellar ratings reports last week. Both comedy dramas aired their finale episodes on Friday, January 17, and achieved only an average of 27 points for the episodes. However, Return of the Silver Tongue managed to accomplish a peak rating of 31 points – drawing in 1.99 million viewers – while Coffee Cat Mama only reached a peak rating of 28 points. Averaging 25 points per episode, Return of the Silver Tongue barely defeated Coffee Cat Mama, which attained an average of 24 points per episode during its broadcast run. Both dramas aired in December, a period of historically low ratings points due to locals travelling for the year-end holidays. On the other hand, TVB’s JSG Music Awards, which was held on Sunday, January 19, saw an increase of two viewership points compared to last year’s show, reaching an average of 21 points and a peak of 24 points. Last year’s award ceremony only managed to attain an average of 19 points. The Hong Kong Broadcasting Authority received one complaint about the bad camera angles during the JSG Music Awards. The popular sitcom Come Home Love <愛•回家> received two complaints about the series’ unoriginal and unrealistic storylines, with its content being “too obviously educational.” Return of the Silver Tongue received five complaints, which pointed out the series’ unrealistic themes. Some also complained about the drama having too much romance, too much coarse language, and poor casting choices. However, two viewers sent in letters of praise to the Broadcasting Authority in regards to TVB’s informative program Guardians of Life <守護生命的故事>, hosted by Lawrence Ng (吳啟華), praising the series’ informative and educational content.
