TVB has dismissed the notion that it has cancelled its annual end-of-the-year event due to the effects of the previous political situation in Hong Kong.

As reported on Mingpao, earlier, it was reported that the company has forgone the 2020 Sales Presentation and lighting ceremony, a yearly event held early November to present its upcoming shows to potential sponsors through trailers and performances prior to its annual TVB Anniversary Awards.

However, after announcing that the company has opted to hold a different kind of event altogether to promote the show this year, many speculated that they may be trying to avoid advertisers and visitors with different political opinion, following allegations that TVB has been biased in its reporting of the Hong Kong anti-extradition protest.

However, the company's Corporate Communications Department had since denied the speculation, saying that there is no basis to such allegation.

"In response to the recent market environment, there is a need for TVB to adjust past practices and strengthen the communication with its advertisers in a more flexible manner," its rep stated.

The said lighting ceremony reportedly will be replaced with a new anniversary programme, which the company intended to brighten the spirits of the Hong Kong public.
