"Truth" Comes Out Behind Edison Chen vs Lin Chi-Ling Debacle

Ever since Edison Chen (陳冠希) waged his social media attack on Lin Chi Ling (林志玲), many have been left wondering as to what could have provoked Edison into such actions.

According to reports, Edison's girlfriend Qin Shu Pei (秦舒培) was supposed to be appearing on a fashion reality show "Hey Muse" - 《我的新衣》 starring Lin Chi-Ling as well, however she was reportedly told by Lin Chi Ling's management team that Lin Chi-Ling did not wish for her to be there thus potentially sparking off Edison's attack. Whilst all this was still in the air, Lin Chi-Ling had already spoken out to the media that she does not know the reason why Edison would attack her and doesn't really know him and was striving to find out the reason.

Producers of "Hey Muse" also quickly denied that she was ever invited to be a contestant, but then confirmed that Qin Shu Pei had been on their list of candidates but Lin Chi-Ling was not responsible. They stated that due to her relationship with "bad boy" Edison had affected her image and ultimately became the reason of being dropped from consideration.

Lin Chi-Ling then clarified that she was unaware of the producer’s reasoning behind their decisions. She will consider taking legal action against Edison’s slander and defamation of character.

Despite speaking out, her statements has done little to pacify this battle, as Edison’s father is taking a stand and speaks out in defence of his son and girlfriend:

"Hello everyone, I am Edison’s father.

As soon as I heard the news, I called Edison straight away and told him he shouldn’t have expressed his anger and frustration using those terms. However, once I made sense of the actual truth behind this, I was very angry and felt that the whole situation and accusations towards Qin Shu Pei was not very fair. So I had to take a stand and say my piece.

My son has perhaps done some things that some people may not like, but he is an honest, real and hardworking person, and he will not hesitate to protect and fight the battles for his loved ones. He is brave and will face any obstacles straight on. I am an old-school person and with any situation there are always rules, principles and morals. I invite everyone to take a step back and analyse this situation calmly.

First of all, Ms Lin’s management team denied knowledge of this situation, the production team also stated they didn’t invite Qin Shu Pei to the show but the very next day, everyone suddenly changes their statement and admits their knowledge. Why? Who’s protecting who here?

A recording of “Lin Chi Ling does not want you to participate in this show” being said three times was later exposed, the representative has no grudge with Ms Lin, so why didn’t they push the responsibility on to the production team or tv station, why did they have to state Ms Lin’s name and stress that it was her decision?

Lastly, a young woman is just trying to make ends meet abroad, working hard to earn money is not an easy feat, but still has to face off attacks from her ex-husband (Ms Lin’s best friend), and having Lin Chi-Ling strike her down. I believe that the people who follows the code of rules and morals will not support Lin Chi-Ling.

I’m saying these things so that the people can analyse the truth for themselves and I also want to say something to Ms Lin:

If you truly had nothing to do or to sway the decisions of the producers and did not cause harm to others, please speak out from the bottom of your heart. Don’t pretend to be the innocent sheep here, in this situation, it is Qin Shu Pei who is the real victim here."
