Ok! i would like to ask everyone...Do you or ur frends/family, find it hard when a vegetarian comes to ur place to have dinner or lunch or etc??????? i asked around at my workplace and on my msn, and eveyrone said yes... which is pretty discouraging as i am a vegetarian myself (but i eat egg and dairy products + fish) so... i would like to noe what u ppl fink =| -blush
I personally dnt find it hard to have a vegetarian friend round esp. one that eats diary and fish! I'm trying to think y its so hard, but maybe cos i from UK, theres alot of british vegetarian dishes i cn cook.
lol its extremely hard, but then again, all u gotta do it Boil a big plate of Veges, lol or send them to a sep table so they cant see u eating meat lol
i dont find it hard to treat a vegetarian to dinner cos there's lots of nice veggie dishes that are easy to cook and yummy to eat...=]
^yeh but I really dont know any tasty dishes that dont contain meat -lol the chinese dish with peppers, aubergine and tofu is nice, but that i cannot cook
It depends on how "strict" your vegetarianism is. Since many Chinese dish involve procedures that takes the "essence" of a piece of meat (such as making stock and soup), if you don't even take soup that uses meat stock, then yes, it CAN be quite troublesome since soup making are kind of complicated (and most soup DOES require meat stock, or those seasoning cubes or whatnot) However, it also depends on the cuisine, since Chinese dishes often incorporate both meat and vegetable in a single dish, if you don't even take the vegetable from a dish like that, it can get VERY problematic as few Chinese dish are made from vegetable exclusively. But there are other cuisines that are more vegetarian friendly: Italian, Greek, and most Bistro food (such as sandwiches, salads and quiche) are very good options if you ever decide to eat out. Avoid restaurant which promotes itself as "master of XXX" if the XXX happens to be meat such as wings or ribs or steak, because even if they DO serve vegetarian dishes, the choices are very limited and often not at all that appetizing. I was a vegetarian for a while so I know a thing or two about it... If you ever host a pot luck or host a party where a guest is a vegetarian, make sure you serve salad (optional meat on the side), vegetarian quiche, or baked casserole or couscous. I don't think it's particularly difficult to be a vegetarian or receive a vegetarian, as long as you are being considerate about it (and not get excessively upset if things didn't turn out the way you WANTED it to turn out) Cut everyone some slack and everything will be fine
cooking for vegetarians would be relatively easy but i think vegans would be much harder to cater for
The worst part is the no cheese, no milk/cream... It's impossible to make cream sauce of any kind without the two... It makes it SO absolutely complicated...
Well I dont think its difficult, you can just prepare anything just without meat. Ok ok not everything, but most dishes can be prepared without meat. My gf is vegetarian and I personally dont have any problems with that.
i'm a vegan and it's not hard finding food but since i'm in nyc, the choices are definitely abundant as for cooking, as a vegan, it's really not that hard cause there are numerous amounts of vegetables and fruits and soy products available as for vegetarian, i was one and it was definitely not hard cooking or finding food
Was a vegan but not I'm a vegetarian at home and when I'm eating out with anyone not in my family line, I'll eat whatever. As a vegan, we avoid all animal related food and say NO to leather. But as a vegetarian, most common lacto-ovo vegetarian will consume eggs and dairy products. Make sure what kind of vegetarian your friend is. Nowadays, a lot of ppl claim they're vegetarian but they consume fish!?
@OP i dont think it is...even though i pretty suck at cooking veggies...lol im not that great...i just stir fry everything... or cook some kinda veggie soup anyways... if not i think id probably just get some take out....or take vegetarians out for dinner....
zzz i not the best cook myself either, Most of take out stores and vegetarian imitation foods taste so crap T_T, but that may just be me being picky =| most of the time its fine wen people come to my place and eat cause i can cook stuff for myself and them, but its different wen I go to their places cause they all have like a limited dinner menu which consists of meat and only meat XD
