this is how ur lungs will look like if u smoke a pack of cigs/day for 20 years. these are pigs lungs btw... were infused with carbon particles after they were donated. there's a healthy lung too and they inflate. of course this smoker's lung is more rigid and dun expand much. see if u can spot the sewed on tumor?
What's really ironic about these government sponsored public service clips is the fact that most governments actually make money from tobacco products. A typical pack of cigarettes varies in costs, depending on the tax that each state imposes. Thus, while it may be about USD $5 in Virginia, after government tax, it may run almost $USD 15 in New York, or three times as much. Of course, the short term fiscal benefit derived from these sales taxes is readily negated by the long term medical costs to any state. Still, most if not all states would actually be hard pressed to suddenly deny themselves this sort of 'sin' revenue (another big one is booze). But, if Phillip Morris and other tobacco interests can be publicly traded and recognized as legitimate business, then it seems a hypocrisy for the government to even come up with such ads; that is, if the state genuinely cared that millions of its citizens are being harmed, it should outright outlaw the sales of tobacco altogether. Disclaimer: I am a 25 pack year (ie pack a day for 25 years) former smoker.
