While many speculate that Tavia Yeung (楊怡) may leave TVB to pursue greener pastures, the TV Queen insists that it is still too early to tell and remarked that she will give her home station priority consideration when it comes to signing a management contract. Despite her TV Queen win in 2012, Tavia has yet to make any further breakthroughs in her acting career. While her fellow first-line artists have been given ample opportunities to participate in films and side projects, Tavia continues to appear only in serial productions and saw little increase in endorsement or event participation. When her long-time manager Chan Ka Lei (陳嘉莉) submitted her resignation letter in October 2013, the media was suspicious of its timing. Rumors claimed that Ms. Chan had plans to establish her own artist management company and was trying to sign her current team of TVB favorites, Tavia, Moses Chan (陳豪), and Roger Kwok (郭晉安). Both Tavia and Moses’s TVB management contracts are set to expire in 2014, making this situation extra sensitive for everyone involved. Things took an interesting turn this week when reports claimed that Ms. Chan has retracted her resignation and will remain with TVB. While TVB can now leverage this latest development to lure Tavia to stay, she seems to be in no hurry to finalize her decision. Making steady career progress since her artist training days in 1999, Tavia is grateful for the successes that TVB has given her and will give the company first consideration when it comes to contract renewal. Even though she is pleased with her growth so far, Tavia is still looking forward to new challenges. She hopes to eventually branch out from acting and explore different opportunities. While many TVB artists are seeking work in the lucrative Mainland market, Tavia seems satisfied to stay at home to be closer to her family. “I hope to put some time aside to work on other things. I don’t want to completely immerse myself into the Mainland market. I also want to take care of my mother who lives here in Hong Kong.” Creds: Ming Pao
