SWF is an interactive media file. It was created by Macromedia then purchased by Adobe. Main advantages of these files, as started in the first sentence is the interactive nature of these files. They can function as a video format but also hold the capability of user interactions for projects like a interactive games or navigations. SWF technology has been used in wide ranges of webpages, web games and if I'm not mistaken mobile phone applications. SWF files require flash player and often times they can be quite large.
