In medevil times, science was looked down upon. Most ppl thought it was strange and at times dangerous. Now, i believe we are facing the same thign with stem cell research and gene minipulation in science :| ppl think that it is dangerous, strange, and 'playing god' much like how people viewed natural science in medevil times. Do you think we are facing another challenge in a new scientific paradigm? Maybe if people were allowed to fully research these and had large amounts of government funding we could solve all of mans problems in 50-100 years. :ugh:
isnt stem cell research allowed in china? i remember hearing something about how even before it was a big topic in the US, China was already doing some experiments with it
there is a good and a bad to each new scientific discovery.....questions is...how do we weigh the two....i'm also pretty sure countries were playing around with stemcell before the public knew about it...
Nah.. not really.. in the 80s they basically all said "lets invest a 300million-3billion to map out the DNA" then in 2002 or so they did :| which was exactly the time they predicted it to take. Meaning stem cell research is surprisingly effective... ppl say it can be the NEW space research... But the thing is Space research doesnt do ----. Stem cell research can save lives, or even create a super human race. LoL! im serious about the creation of a super human race tho....
well.. a far more primitive one! basically he killed off all ppl with defects. blacks, jews, midgets... its pretty funny. in my philosophy class we were debating about it for jokes. :bigthumb:
hmph..i must have misread somewhere about him playing around with science to create some super race...but then again i heard something else about him not believing in science....i could be wrong...
if you look at allthese future movies, there is alway some form of genetic mods involved. doesnt taht kind of show that society will sort of accept genetic modification?
I think it is inevitable that genetic modification will shape our future. What will the steroid debate be then?
quick question to akademik: do you really think that man's problem can be solved through science? or do u mean our physical problems can be solved by science?
Stem Cell REsearch. Scientific Outlash in 2000? I really think stem cell research can bring science to a next higher level.
i dont mind stem cell researches... back then stem cell research needs an embro to get the cells and then the embro is thrown out now they got a new technology which wont damage the embro
Exactly. I don't think the public is fully informed and knowledgeable about stem cell research. Most people who hear the word "cloning" automatically think that we're going to create someone identical to whoever it is being cloned. Granted, however, the DNA will be identical but the individual will likely grow up to be quite different...I mean, look at identical twins: they have the same DNA and may look alike but they usually have completely different personalities.
Studies have proven that identical twins actually have very similar personalities. Stem cell research already has made great discoveries. They have been able to detect many more diseases before an egg becomes an embryo because of stem cell research. But the only people who care are the parents who now have healthy babies thanks to these discoveries. I guess people are waiting for scientists to grow a human kidney before they'll think stem cell can really help.
I've never heard about this. Where did you read this from, I'd like to read more about the process. I didn't think it was possible.
The major concern about stem cell research should be all the top stem cell researchers are leaving the country, because the stem cell regulation are to restrictive in the US and all the cell line are too old.
