After the box office failure of his 2002 comedy film Fighting to Survive < 一蚊雞保鑣>, Dayo Wong (黃子華) is determined to make this one a success.

Agent Mr. Chan <棟篤特工>, directed by Jeff Cheung (張家傑) and with a script penned by Dayo, follows a British agent who teams up with a Hong Kong government officer to solve a case, but ends up falling in love in the process. Dayo portrays the titular spy, with Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), his co-star in 2009’s You’re Hired <絕代商驕>, playing as his partner.

Earlier, photos from the set of Agent Mr. Chan was published online, featuring a wedding scene between Dayo and Charmaine. Dayo donned an Elvis-inspired hairdo for the ceremony, showing off the film’s comedic, stand-up style.

The film features a plethora of co-stars, including Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文), Sandra Ng (吳君如), Lo Hoi-pang (盧海鵬), Jim Chim (詹瑞文), Ada Choi (蔡少芬), and Alan Tam (譚詠麟).

Agent Mr. Chan is Dayo’s first self-written film since 2002’s Fighting to Survive, which was a box office bomb. Released in January 2002, the movie brought in only HK$110,000 in the box office, putting it as one of Hong Kong’s lowest-grossing films. Determined to not suffer the same fate, Dayo worked extra hours to perfect the script of Agent Mr. Chan, going through ten drafts.

“We originally wanted to start filming last year,” said Dayo. “But I ended up with ten drafts. I really want to give everyone a much more handsome and perfect script this time.”

Agent Mr. Chan, produced by China 3D Digital Entertainment, is slated for a Chinese New Year release in 2018.
