I know this won't be any consolation to those who disprove euthanasia, but it offers certain credibility to the procedure to those who are undecided on the issue.
I wouldn't mind (euthanasia being legalized). I don't quite see a whole lot of cons with it... So why not? -tongue2
i think euthanasia and friends aiding in suicide is the same thing but according to the law it's not. There's got to be a "proper" way to die, that's how hard death is nowadays.
A "friend" assisted suicide may hint coercion, that's one direction the legal system does not want to deal with. -sweat
^yea you're right...also i doubt the person who wants suicide would want their friend to go through the pain of aiding them.
True enough, as if surviving a dead friend isn't traumatic enough, "hey, want to come over and see how I choke and die on crack?" Kind of reminds me of the ending of The Barbaric Invasion (Les Invasions Barbares).
wats the difference between doctor assisted suicide and self inflicted suicide??? Isnt it the same?? why legalize one and the not the other
Because given the "suicide" is successful, a doctor assisted "suicide" will have a living "murderer" (i.e.: the doctor) to be sued while a self-inflicted suicide will have a dead murderer unavailable to be sued
hmm... euthanasia is a pretty tough topic of debate... you might know this, we have a case of mrs rodriguez for example, who wanted to legalize euthanasia because she couldnt do it herself due to a disease.. and in that case euthanasia wouldve eased her pain... but what if someone kills someone else? they could use euthanasia as an excuse for murder and there might not be enought proof to prove otherwise...
There's always a chance of a system being abused or exploited. Look at fostering system, children welfare, financial aid, disability welfare etc etc. It only call for stricter policing (to catch exploitation and abuse of the system), not avoiding the issue... Restricting euthanasia to certified doctors (or medical personnel) with authorization of BOTH the patient and a psychiatrist can be an option to ponder if euthanasia ever be considered to be legalized (which it will not, not in the foreseeable future anyways).
it's like declaring war vs. revenge sorta thing. i mean if a person kills your family members you don't have the right to kill back. but if another country attacks a country and kills it's people, declaring war would permit revenge and killing. Ok maybe the example of war was too big, how about just murder in court cases lol, convicted= legal way to get executed or locked up for revenge Death gotta be authorized these days you know lol.
Personally im pro legalizing MD assisted suicide. Nonetheless, there's always a pro or con when it comes to acting on the pt's decision since the boundary between mentally fit or not is definitely very subjective.
