I know this is old but still have a PC running VISTA. Don't wanna install anything new .. lazy.

Anyway, I only use this PC for watching movies/dramas and tonight, it suddenly acts up.

The "search function" on the start button keep running non-stop. I don't know what's wrong. I thought there was a conflict in the updates of the Real Player and Avast so I uninstalled them. I then installed MSE but the problem remains.

What's going on? Someone please help. Thanks!

Were you searching for something? Using Windows search or Windows Desktop search?

    Possible solutions:

    1) Turn on indexing
    2) Temporarily disable virus scanner (possible searching for items triggers vscan which in turn triggers search?)
    3) Uninstall/Reinstall (or don't) Windows Desktop search
