A friend of mine has always been suffering pains from period. Aside from the bad mood and not feeling too well, she also claim to be having severe pain from her stomach. Sometimes the pain is so acute that her body started shaking. It really bothers me that she's in such pain and I don't know what to do. She has been taking over the counter Ibuprofen 400mg, I assume, every time she has pain. My opinion is that Ibu will probably make her stomach ache more in the long run especially the fact that she has been taking it for years. With that said, it is safe to assume that the weaker analgesic such as paracetamols and aspirins probably would not help her much.

If you have any ideas how to alleviate the pain without taking pills or those hallucinogens please let me know. It does not have to be drug-wise. e.g. allure her attention away from the pain to other means. Please help.

the best thing is to see a doctor because its not normal to have stomach pains when you have periods.... unless you mean cramps then that has nothing to do with the stomach

as munmun suggested she should go c a dr... my friend got rid of her pms pains by taking birth control pills... maybe ur friend can ask her GP for some information about it
taking pain killers for pms pain once in a while isnt that bad but yea i agree with what u said n reckon having as much as ur friend does could never be healthy

other than that maybe u can buy her a nice water bottle

Thanks for the replies ladies. I think she's having both cramps and stomach ache. She told me sometimes it hurts her so much that she wants to vomit.

DONT take aspirin as it decreases the clotting factors in the body. Prolonged use can cause gastric bleeding as well. Does she only have abdominal pain during her periods or at other times also? She should def go see a GP or gyne bc if its severe to the point that shes shaking, it could be a precursor of serious problems.

As for other methods for soothing pain, theres cold pack on abd., distraction, massotherapy, aromatherapy, music and such can help her.

yup yup hot water bottles can help with cramps...^^ (thats what i do =] )
but if its really severe....then should go to the doctors as others hav already suggested...to check it out...
perhaps they can prescribe her something else to help with the pain?

ya... i don't think she wanted to go to those therapies nor she wanted to spend her money on them. i'll just let her know about the ice pack and hot water bottle. also according to her, she did talk to her doctor about it but nothing is done. her doctor just told her it's a normal human process.

thats abit weird...surely the doctor would give her like a body/health check or whatever first before determining the pain is a 'normal human process'?

When I get bad cramps, sitting down makes it worse
I find it best to walk around or something, it makes me feel less nauseas
Or you can pop some pain killers too

that's wat she told me. i don't know what she told her doctor. but according to her, her doctor told her its a normal human process.

also im trying to make her avoid pain killers.

and now we have another problem, she doesn't want to get a water bottle because it will remind her of an emotional memory. please post more helps T.T

bloody hell.....your friend sounds kinda difficult? ><"

anyways...You got to be stern with her an tell her that the water bottle helps an its not worth it for her to give herself more pain.Use the water bottle..Get better an then avoid the water bottle and the memory.

She should put her health first.

also I think she should go to another doctor to get another opinion or you could go with her?

I think your friend should try exercising like yoga or pilates, since it gets the blood flowing so it'll reduce the cramping pain. and if it doesnt work, at least she'll look good :D (from the exercising)

I also used to have abdominal pain and always take pain killer. My doctor then advise me to take EPO (Evening Primrose Oil) this is for long term. Since then I have been taking them for years and gradually reduce the pain every month. The pain is more bearable and sometimes no pain at all. It is also good for skin.

can i ask about ur friend's diet??

i get pains too..if its too much i'll take a naproxen sodium pill and i'll feel better..

but my diet affects me..if i drink warm water..and not take stuffs like tea or watermelon/pineapple before my period..i tend to not suffer any cramps..would be as per normal..

or else..i would be be cramping like mad..and to the extent of throwing up even when i drank water..(this only happened twice before)..

but this is just me..diff ppl have diff symptoms...

if your friend's condition is really bad and continuous ..i think u should consult another doctor or even a specialist??..

    just my opinion..^^
