1. I'm just wondering are all Rams backwards compatible? cause I see some of they say that.. so what does it really mean to be backwards compatible?

say for instance if your computer uses PC-6400 ram.. can you buy a PC-6700 stick instead?

^all depends on the pins and if it fits in your slot i guess...if it fits i guess it works...

  3. yea.. right? cause I checked on crucials site.. and they had the higher up models as be available for my PC.. so I mean.. wouldn't kill my PC in the long run right?

^lol just check on the specifications on it and see if it supports the current version of ram you have for your computer....cause i think it should say also works for...blah blah blah...

  5. lol uff it.. I bought it.. it was on sale.. xD

So I guess we'll see if it does indeed work..

depends on the ram. if it fits it should work. but if the ram speed is different or not compatible it wont detect it. u can check ur motherboard to see wat its compatible. generally a faster ram should work. or if its too fast or too slow it still might not detect.

correct me if im wrong but if you got 6400 in ur comp nw and put 6700 in it, it would be bottle neck cause it would run at the lower speed of the 6400, it would still work tho i think.

The faster RAM would just clock down to the slower RAM for compatibility.

ye if its the right number of pins and the right type of ram, if it runs at a qucker speed but ur comp handles a lower speed, it will still work but just at the speed that ur comp can handle.

  10. alright that works for me... thanks guys..

so it wouldn't be harmful or anything in the long run right?

DDR motherboards only work with DDR modules

DDR2 motherboards only work with DDR2 modules

the speed the memory runs at is generally not an issue

as long as its the right type as dim8sun sed it will be fine.

it wouldn't bottleneck cuz u wouldn't have been able to run at that speed to begin with since ur mobo can't even get up there :xd:

difference between restrictive flow and lack of capacity-^_^

you won't have a problem with the faster clocked ram because it will scale down to the slowest stick of ram that you have...you just won't be able to run it at its greatest potential but your puter is fine

  15. Yeah it is fine i did it for my laptop, and desktop, my room mate works at best buy and got me sweet deals on two 2GB sticks that i implanted into my desktop lol 4gb <--- totally unneccessary lol

besides by getting a quicker ram in theory it should last longer because ur not using it to the fullest capacity.
