The legal tussle between Kenny Wee (黃浩) and Oscar Leung (梁烈唯) took on a new development as the latter counter-sued Kenny for abuse of the judicial system and caused him to lose a film contract that is worth more than $1 million HKD. More details have emerged over Oscar’s recriminatory charges he is pressing against the restaurant owner.

The yo-yo legal battle arose from Eric Tsang’s (曾志偉) reported slapping of Kenny Wee last December. When Kenny pressed charges against Eric Tsang for physical assault, Oscar had defended Eric and said Kenny possessed “persecutory delusions.” This infuriated Kenny who gave Oscar the ultimatum to either apologize or be sued. Oscar refused to apologize, and Kenny fulfilled his “promise” and sued Oscar for defamation.

It was a double wham for Oscar when Young and Dangerous: Reloaded <古惑仔:江湖新秩序> producer, Wong Jing (王晶) withdrew his offer of a 10-film contract to Oscar because of the lawsuit.

    Eye For an Eye

As a consequence, Oscar went to the High Court on Monday and made a recriminatory charge against Kenny.

In the legal document filed by Oscar, he stated that his own actions did not cause Kenny to incur any loss, and that being the case, Kenny’s complaint against him was thus groundless and should be refuted. On the other hand, Kenny had abused the judicial system to cause a scene, knowing very well that the legal entanglement would hurt Oscar’s career. On top of that, Oscar’s freedom of speech and his right to speak about public matters was also unnecessarily stifled.

It was also disclosed that because the lawsuit caused Oscar to lose a film contract valued at a 7-figure sum, he is filing compensatory damages from Kenny. However, the exact compensation sum was not written in the document.
