    Ok so I've been reading "The Eight" by Katherine Neville recently and she's got me thinking about Music as Science. But I remember while teaching kids at this middle school for Co-op my teacher once told me: "How do you expect student's to read music when they aren't even familiar with reading English yet?" But other performers DON'T need to know English to learn how to read Musical Notes. They can be Chinese, Japanese, Korean, you get the drift and not use English to learn Music.

    I also saw this quote about God:

    "[The God of the Old Testament is] arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully" - Richard Dawkins

    I thought it was hilarious! (For some odd reason). What do you think about these two theories that God is a bully and Music is just another language to be learned?

    I'm not sure if anyone's written about this already. =P

    ok...so the God thing kinda confuses me...didnt really get that part...sry:smile:

    but the music thing...ok...u dont have to learn other language first...and i think music is even a more universal language than english is...cuz u dont have to really communicate with words...its just the sound and rythm that brings a message..."where words fail...music speaks" dont know from who this quote is...but really true...(Y)
    and beside...ppl sing to little kids...that dont know how to read or speak yet...

    Hmm...yes but what i meant by Music as a language as in...well...you know you've got the notes right? Like space notes are FACE for treble clef and Every Good Boy Deserves Fudge for line notes.

    And I've also read somewhere that the first thing God created was voice. Voice was then used for Music and communication. So I think the two really ARE connected...music and language...@_@ but now I'm starting to confuse myself.

    Anyhow it's true I'd agree with you there's too many big words used in the "God" theory. As in I don't really understand it. But I when it says he's a homophobic..LOL...What do you think? Uh oh...getting on the topic of homophobia now even if it wasn't my intention at first...BUT HE ALWAYS HAS TO HAVE HIS WAY...Why?

    well...because hes god lol...and actually he doesnt always has his way...i mean you're still living your own life arent ya

    Well God in Greek Mythology created light and darkness first...I think...I only remember that there was only Chaos and that was it...lol...

    I don't know so much about "living your own life" although CHOICES might be there. Like you're free to choose between right or wrong. And then culture kind of mixes into this whole thing too. Like it's not really much of a choice when you're supposed to die for God like in most cultures where sacrifice is a privilege...is that the right word to use? There's always the authority of others you listen to.

    There's also another saying that "Man is supposed to be free but we are tied down," by the government or something don't remember. But when you really think about it why are there Birth Certificates and ID to prove you are who you are? Paper is the only thing holding us down from freedown and the government. I wonder if this means they are playing God holding onto our lives and the decisions we are allowed to make everyday? Ex. Euthanasia or putting on your seatbelt in the car. Who says we can't? Well we don't have to but would be given a ticket. That's being controlling too just like God is right?

    Music's just another language like any other language on paper. Just symbols.

    And I think Dawkins take on God was funny and spot on. God is sort of like Cher, addapting with time to appeal to the audience.

    yeah, i agree...society, culture and sometimes religion has such a huge impact on how we live our lives...just because a lot of ppl are afraid that others will talk behind their back...

    i know...all those papers are just restrictions, even though it was meant to be good or to identify who we are, but they usually keep us from doing things that we really want to...its been said that we can do whatever we want...but its actually not like that...

    What film is that TiffyStars? Pretty interesting if you ask me. How do people know how God is like if they haven't met God before? I like the questions in the film. They're interesting and makes me ask myself even more. xD

    Music in the church is a hot topic. Unfortunately, it is an area that has caused great division within congregations. "Worship Wars" (disagreements over the music used in worship) are an increasing reality in the church, so much so that Christianity Today devoted a cover story to the topic, entitled, "Triumph of the Praise Songs: How guitars beat out the organ in the worship wars" (July 12, 1999). The controversy seems to be almost inevitable given two factors: first, the Bible does not prescribe particular melodies and rhythms to be used for worship; second, the modern world tends to produce a psychology that focuses on self-actualization. So when music becomes a topic for discussion, personal preference and self-fulfillment, rather than Scripture, become the standards of evaluation.

    well the Bible does mention about music and musical instruments
    e.g,
    * exodus 15:20-21
    * 1 Samuel 10:5

    and this one in particular shines out the use of "worship through music"

    *** 1 Chronicles 25:1-7

    worship is one of the ways that you can praise God with- those who are in the worship team to serve God...and you can actually fill the room with the Holy Spirit during worship.

    Yes, the Bible does not explain anything about melodies and rhythms... but the lyrics to the music does.
    the traditional churches prefer to use organs i suppose and the modern free churches use a band with guitars and drums etc... it works both ways/

  13. Richard darwkins says one thing and over a billion say otherwise. anyway its within his interest to discredit a God he doesn't believe in.

    Music is universal, im talking about the music without the vocals though. Satan was also described as an angel of music too, thought you would like to know -shock
