Mainland Chinese romantic film Beijing Love Story <北京爱情故事> premiered on Valentine’s Day to great success. Helmed by Chen Sicheng (陈思诚), who also stars in the film, Beijing Love Story broke five box office records in mainland China, making it one of the most successful romantic comedy films in the nation. Beijing Love Story opened in mainland China on February 14 and topped the box office with 102 million RMB, breaking opening day records for a 2D Chinese film, a record previously held by Lunar New Year film Dad, Where Are You Going? <爸爸去哪儿>. Beijing Love Story also became the highest-grossing 2D Chinese film on a working day, the highest-grossing romance film on Valentine’s Day in China, the highest-grossing film by mid-day in China, and the fastest-grossing Chinese romance film in history.
