hey was wondering if anyone could help me out and give me some advice on a little situation i have. I have an HP computer and the monitor hasn't been working for like a week and a half. I've tried researching the problem online but come up empty, anyway it seems that the computer is fine but it just doesn't detect the monitor anymore for some reason, but when i use it in safe mode it's fine but i'm unable to change any settings.Other than that all the other times, the screen is blank just saying ''input signal out of range change settings to 1280x1064'' or some other number to that effect, but how can i possibly change the screen settings when i can even see anything displayed. So anyone have any thoughts? ideas???

there should be some sort of graphics test utiliy on the PC...run that and it will tell u.

try control panel -> display properties-> troubleshooting.

Reinstall the driver for your graphics card.

Due to the fact that your graphics card driver is corrupted, video doesn't work when you boot normally. Booting under safe mode does not use any of the drivers. Since the video works under safe mode, this pretty much eliminates the possibility that the monitor is bad and the possibility that the graphics card is bad.

just do some simple tests, plug it into another computer to see if its working, if its not then you're monitor might be bad and its lost its capability to show anything past 640x480 or watevers in safe mode. also try to roll back your driver for the vid card or something (reinstall drivers in safemode). if monitor is good on another computer, monitor is good, reinstall drivers. if problem isn't solved vid card is bad.

So I don't know what cable it is, it's an LCD and I've used it for about 2 yrs and i have no idea about everything else. It does seem like it's the problem with the graphics card/drivers because the monitor seems to work fine in safe mode. I've tried plugging another monitor into the PC but it would not display anything so likely not monitor's fault. So the best solution is to reinstall the drivers like everybody's suggesting.....but how do i do that??

Boot the computer into safe mode and uninstall the old driver.

Try booting normally, if that fails, boot in safe mode.

    Download, install and run CCleaner

    Visit HP's website.

    Use this link: http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html?pageDisplay=drivers

Enter the model number of your computer and it should take you to a list of drivers. Look for the latest graphics card, download it and save it to a flash drive.

Boot your HP into safe mode and install the driver within safe mode.

Right click My Computer and click on Mange.

Double click on Device Manager. Under Display Adapter there should be a graphics card. Right click and uninstall.

apparently, i can't use much in safe mode, alot of functions and services are disabled so the drivers are not showing up, and if i reboot normally i'm gonna see nothing, so i'm kind of stuck.....uh oh...
