Miss Hong Kong 2014 contestants appeared in swimsuits for the first time at a beach promotion today. Although the swimsuits were relatively conservative, several candidates stood out with their curvaceous figures. Contestant #4 Maggie Chung (鍾美琪) had the most outstanding measurements with a 35-25-36 figure. Contestants #8 Jamie Lee (李汶蔚) and #15 Veronica Shiu (邵珮詩) also stood out in their swimsuits. Jamie denied that she will gain an advantage simply because of her curves. She stressed the importance of the complete package, and said that her best features are her cheerful personality and smile. She will be updating her blog to share her past experiences as a flight attendant. Contestants’ Backgrounds Revealed Although TVB hoped to keep the 16 candidates away from scrutiny before the semi-finals, information about the candidates leaked out. The press snapped photos of the applicants during the first-round interviews which were held in July. Some of the candidates’ photos from the Okinawa, Japan filming trip were also exposed. Public interest in the candidates has been piqued, generating the usual gossip about their backgrounds. A source earlier claimed contestant #9 Erin Wong (王卓淇) to be a materialistic and greedy woman who lives off her boyfriend. She denied having a boyfriend at the moment. Born in Guangzhou, Erin wants to develop her career in Hong Kong since several family members have moved there. Contestant #12 Janet Choi (蔡曉瑩) revealed that she resigned from her airline cabin service director position to fully concentrate on the competition. Law school student, #7 Katherine Ho (何艷娟) dreamed of joining the pageant since Li San San’s (李珊珊) crowning moment in 1996. Contestant #14 Fiona Fung (馮詠雩) admitted that it was her mother who encouraged her to compete in the race when she was still studying in England. As the current hot favorite, #11 Soffie Ng (吳凱欣) said she never compares herself to others. When asked if she has any secret weapons that will benefit her in the pageant, Soffie stated, “I was a flight attendant for three years, so I have lots of life experience and am able to adjust to new situations quickly!” Contestant #12 Janet Choi (蔡曉瑩) caught the media’s attention with her master’s degree in university. Janet revealed that she already has a boyfriend, and he is highly supportive of her decision to participate in the pageant. A source spilled that contestant #13 Crystal Wong (黃燕如) participated in Mainland Chinese dating shows two years ago. She appeared in both One in a Hundred <百里挑一> and Who Can Choose One in a Hundred <誰能百里挑一>. Crystal admitted to the news and explained, “I was 22 back then and wanted to make new friends to see if I can find a boyfriend. After I went onstage, I realized it wasn’t how I preferred to communicate. We had different values.” Crystal added she currently does not have a boyfriend, and believes dating is all about having the right feel.
