In her capacity as the special representative of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (聯合國愛滋病規劃署) in Hong Kong, Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) took part in the activities yesterday to mark World AIDS Day. Other dignitaries at the event included the wife of the Chief Executive Mrs Selina Tsang (曾鮑笑薇), Hong Kong Health Secretary Mr York Chow (周一嶽) and Acting Director of Broadcasting Services Ms Gracie Foo (傅小慧). Together, they opened the event to spread the word about fighting the AIDS virus.

Miriam revealed that she has worked with Red Ribbon Centre (紅絲帶中心) for nine years and as well as filming promotional clips for them, she has also shared some of them with her fans on her blog to help spread the word. She hopes to take part in more events visiting AIDS sufferers and do what she can to help them.

Miriam also added that she took part in a discussion group with some of the victims and their families recently and learned about the pain and suffering they endure. She explained that there is often additional pressures on the patients because there is often denial and rejection from their families and the future can seem very bleak for these people. She said that she is very happy to represent these people and be their voice and adds that she has learned from her experiences as a nurse that the best way to approach the subject with families is through a light-hearted conversation.
