i was wonder what it is too... Microsoft Silverlight is a browser plugin that allows web applications to be developed with features like animation, vector graphics, and audio-video playback - features that characterize a rich internet application. Silverlight competes with products such as Adobe Flash, Adobe Flex, Adobe Shockwave, Java FX, and Apple QuickTime. Version 2.0 brought improved interactivity and allows developers to use .NET languages and development tools when authoring Silverlight applications. Silverlight was developed under the codename Windows Presentation Foundation/Everywhere (WPF/E). It is compatible with multiple web browser products used on Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. A third-party free software implementation named Moonlight is under development to bring compatible functionality to GNU/Linux. Mobile devices, starting with Windows Mobile 6 and Symbian (Series 40 and 60) phones, will also be supported.[1]
i dont' think you need it now. Version 1 is kinda retarded. Version 2 is suppose to be more useful. you can download and install then.
i've never heard of it until now. i doubt it will be gd at the beginning but it will slowly develop and be quite gd. on the other hand when it does become gd i think it will just take up too much system resources and tbh its not rele that useful.
Personally, I feel that whatever Microsoft is involved with will always have bloatware of 1 form or another. I mean for pete sakes, there's even bloatware from games that Microsoft is involved with.
In simple words, MS Silverlight is a product designed by Microsoft to be direct competitor with Adobe Flash.
adobe flash works fine, who needs this crap anyway lol. its just like with their IE, for a long time it was just IE6 and then they updated it and now they have beta versions which suggest that pretty soon a new version will be released. i see microsoft are trying to gain their dominance over everything again.
It's bloatware that probably will fail. I mean, look at Flash. Its penetration in computers is around 90% if I don't remember wrong. And it is cross-platform. OSX, *nix, Windows, Flash works on all of them. Silverlight? Windows-only. Now it wouldn't really matter in a Windows application to be restricted to a single operating system. It would matter if it is the internet. Flash is good enough for whatever you may need to do. If you need something more powerful, Java comes into play. Silverlight practically doesn't do much right now. But we'll still see Microsoft promoting this because... wait, I have no idea why.
